Here we go again.
Wonder if Ribnet will ever get back to the friendly site it once was.
There's not a day goes past when somebody doesn't have a go at sombody else.
Targeting a member nearly every time they post is just plain bullying, and gives the newcomers the wrong idea about the site. Manos was bullied off the site a while ago, it was tried with Codders, and I'm glad he stood up to those that felt they had to find fault all the time.
Although I will never accept the bullies, I think a forum like this will attract all sorts, and all users should be grown up enough to accept they have chosen to partake in a public forum.
If anyone wants to disagree, they know where to find me each second Monday of the month and do it face to face.
Nasher.

Well said.
I agree that Ribnet is a hugely useful source of information, and I for one have made several non-cyberspace friends through it.
It's also been hugely helpful to me on technical questions, both rib related and non-rib related, and that would be a shame to loose.
I have a huge respect for your post Nasher - and admire your courage for publicly broadcasting your views.

No he wasn't. He was suspended (for the third time), and it looks like he has chosen not to return.
I think RIBnet is generally a pretty friendly place, as it always has been. With getting on for 3,000 members and well over 100,000 posts there are inevitably going to be clashes from time to time. It happens, but we seem to be able to move on from them pretty well.
As ever, if anyone has any issues with posts on RIBnet please let me know.
John

Good for you Nasher - I have always admired people who stick up for fair play and common decency.
Things do seem to have improved considerably on here lately - apart from the odd lapse now and then!!!

Well said Nasher.
My (short) experience so far of RIB.net has been mainly positive. Some very helpful people here. Unfortunately, as with life in general, there are always exceptions. It won't deter me though. If they have issues and choose to wrap them up in personal attacks that's their problem.

I'd just like to point out here that I'm generally offensive to most people most of the time anyway so if anyone thinks I've been rude it's not personal

Fairly obvious I'd have thought. To win £1000 from The Garfish by dubious means.
Don't get too upset though, because I've opened it up again.

I'd start running if I were you before someone does a hit'n'run with a camel trophy disco
Doubt he'll be convinced that he's wrong somehow

i agree with the sentiment of this thread, much better to be friendly to your fellow ribbers.
Hands up i used to give codders a hard time over his boat or lack of it at the time and some of his postings, just like others did, but now i have more important things to attend to and wish him all the best with his venture.
Friendly banter is good fun, it is just when it gets personal that folks take offence.
Anyway this site is great for advice, meeting folks, sharing experiences etc and it is great to meet like minded people.
We hope to travel all over the country this year with our rib so will probably meet up with a few folks then.

Nasher,
As JK has already said. Manos was red-carded...again. He wasn't "bullied". It's just that some of us dislike having our ..limited... intelligence insulted by the utter bullshit and lies that he used to post...and not only here.. but OSO..Scream'n fly and Boatmad... hints were repeatedly dropped.. official warnings from "moderators" given.. but he still kept on. If you think that is "unfriendly" I'm sorry...
I also get wound up by people who have no experience or real knowledge in any particular area holding forth as though they had…. If someone want information on my particular field of expertise….and I know were my knowledge lies…. and where it doesn’t…you won’t find me telling anyone how to drive a boat or what boat to choose… because there are people on here with real experience and expertise….I’ll happily give it…. But then to be contradicted by an armchair expert, does make my blood boil…. if that makes me seem "unfriendly", I'm sorry.. I know that to be the opinion of several very experienced and knowledgeable people on here.. who are also happy to give advice.. So what’s the solution?

I made a post about this some time ago.
I actually didnt come here for a while, that and getting fed up with the car dealing twats who pub about in their ribs (the reason i gave up the boat at camber)
I have to say the I havent read anything that Codders has said that warrants the slagging he seemed to get.
But there you go, i have met some great people through this oh and Rogue!

On the whole I support where Nashers comming from. I have noticed the shape of RIBnet change over time and I'm not always happy to read certain posts.
There are people on here that I don't think I would ever get on with (some met others not (please prove me wrong)), I do tend to ignore posts when these types post, but it is my choice (call me boring).
JK in my view doesn't hand out punishments on RIBnet enough in my view and has had one or two PM's about this in the past, but that said he normally doesn't have to (that speak volumes about the managment of this site) and having the number of members we have I do think generally people do behave themselves.
I do find it tiresome to start to read a post that interests me and for it to go completly off topic, I'm sure that many would aggree with me on this one.
Anyway keep up the good work and I am generally happy with the way things are run, however for me (and this is personal) the best days have faded and I look forward to them returning one day.
