Home Insurance Claim Help

I recently had to make a claim on my home Insurance after a water leak, the insurance company sub contracted the work and it turns out that the workmen were not qualified or crb checked and they did a crap job. Luckily I took lots of photos and after a visit from a manager they have offered to pay for a contractor of my choice and for the damages they caused.

I now have to get quotations for all the work and all the damaged items.

Does this seem fair to you? Do I need to contact an ombudsman? Can I claim for the 4 weeks that we could not use our kitchen and what about all the hassle as it was complete hell!

This shouldn't be an issue as under 16's shouldn't be left alone in a house with people you don't know. Reputable tradesmen should refuse to be left alone in a house with an under 16. A delivery company refused to bring a very large carton (containing a sliding rocking horse) into my son's house as they were not allowed to enter a house that only had under 16's in. My Grandson was 15 and a half and taller than me!

I tutor Maths at the child's house and encourage the parents to wander in and out the room at will. When the child is approaching their GCSE exams I sometimes tutor during Easter hols/half term while the parents are at work in these circumstances I ask the parents AND the child if they are happy with that situation, even though the child may already be 16 or very close to it and the fact that the family have known me several months or a few years if I have tutored other members of the family. This is more for MY piece of mind than the parents.

As a builder I have had a lot of experience with insurance companies , 1: lots of photos :2 get a loss adjuster, YOUR insurance company has to pay for there services as it will come under legal fees, at this stage do not appoint your own builder if things go wroung again YOU appointed them !! please get a loss adjuster involed asap to fight your corner they are worth there weight in gold and insurance companies hate them for it

Small technical point.

Loss Adjuster is appointed and paid for by insurance company- so you can see where thier interest is !

Loss Assesor is appointed by the insured and acts on thier behalf.

Nowadays is a more blurry line re descriptions of loss adjustors/assesors ....

I'll get my coat
