Not sure how good burglar alarms are in reality. A deterrent perhaps, but when we lived on your unruly island we were advised that any serious tea leaf would drill a small hole in the side of the alarm box and pump it full of expanding foam. Pretty good at silencing the traditional ringing bell types though admittedly may not work so well on horn or siren types.
