hot hatch time
...I'll admit I watched top gear last night..thinking yes, yes , yes, yes to those things they were doing.(I was crying with laughter while it was on)
Mine was a ren 19 16v 'chamade'...more upmarket than the 5 turbo and still 138 horses :-)
Who had what?

Before you start on the who had what, YOU had a WHAT. Typical collectors car
Astra GTE 16V, superb. The wayward handling as you gave it the full beans only made for a more interesting experience

I was a Peugeot boy... 205 1.6 GTi, then moved to the 309 1.9 GTi and finally left the hatches and on to a 405 SRi.
I've recently been thinking about a return to an old hot hatch for old times sake. Never managed a R5 Turbo, maybe now is the time.

MG Maestro turbo. Could deal with everything around at the time (in its class). Rusted in front of your eyes though! Saw 160mph on the clock (on a private road)
Bought an Impreza Turbo after it and it felt slow!

Yep, had 2 x MG metros
My favourite hot hatches was the MK1 Golf GTI in black and a gunmetal grey Pug 205 1.9 GTI- Both were very quick but had sad endings as the Golf ended up on its roof and the Pug's gearbox exploded into a million pieces after I booted it.
All my other friends had Vauxhall Nova SRs and they all ended up rolling them just as Hammond pointed out

MG Maestro turbo quicker than a Ferrari mondial.... 0-60 6.5 secs.Fastest front wheel drive car in the UK in 1989.Torque steer would put you in the ditch though.

Not quite a hot hatch but had a Celica GT-4; it had been fiddled with and the boost turned up so the turbo boost gauge went off the right hand end of the scale when you floored it

Corrado VR6 in the noughties.
Estates from there on!

Erm... Does the ex CID manual V8 SD1 I had at age 18 count...? It was a hatch after all.
The Opel Manta Coupé doesn't as it was a saloon.
Had an XR3 briefly, but it was a parts bin special that lasted about a week.
Nothing was a patch on either the SD1 or Manta.

Peter, if it was G,H or J reg, there's a good chance I ragged it up and down Southampton docks well before you got your hands on it....lol
I used to run a gang of car valeters in "CAT GB" just about every Renault that came into the country went through there...
