I have to change to 2wd to be able to do the doughnuts Matt, but very easy to do. This afternoon when we came back from shopping I normally have to do a wide 90 deg turn and another 90 deg in reverse to get up the drive. I did a half 180 deg doughnut instead and rather impressed myself. My next door neighbour who came with us didn't look that impressed She works for Hampshire Police though

If I turn all the gizmos off, mine still wont do it unless I go for some lunacy with about 30 mph, and then a full lock with hand brake on etc .. but by that time ive no idea where its going to go . so space is good

Mine's very easy to doughnut in 2wd, but the locked centre diff makes it understeer in 4wd instead. Handbrake helps

I never liked the Idea of using the handbrake whilst traveling in 4wd with a locked centre diff as you'd get wind up between the locked rear wheels and rotating front wheels, wouldn't you?

Ah youtube - the only place with more "expert drivers" behind keyboards than Ribnet! Perhaps if the amatuer cameramen where a little more public spirited and offered a push or some advice to their "victims" the country would move a little more smoothly when it snows

Public spirited ! what he was really hoping for was some low life scally's kicking the crap out of him then further humiliate him by taking his car after first using him for traction under the front wheels .I wonder how many hits that would have had on youtube .

Having escaped most of the snow so far, we got a decent dollop last night....which remains frozen on the roads now....
A snow covered beach this morning at Lifeboat drill and some amazing icicles on the cliffs from fozen run off.....did my 'good dead' for the day on the way back too....moved a crashed car and ferried the grandmother and three children back into town....hope Father Christmas is reading this

I concur. We've had about 8"-12" here and I've been pleased to see people being fairly helpful. Some appalling driving/recoveries though. I've been using the 110 exclusively (with the cheepity cheap Lassa MTs) and have the full recovery gear o/b, as well as a couple of shovels, brushes and a few bags of gravel, grit and a bucket of dried sand (great for ice)
I've taken much pleasure from extracting BMWs and Mercs , but my tally includes stuck lorries, multiple cars and a Landcruiser c/w cattle trailer jackknifed on a hill.
A note: No one I've encountered (stuck) has had their towing bolt/eye in their car. So one to check for...

Aye. The lad who was stuck on the hill in the blizzard had one and in 20 seconds he was hooked and rolling homeward. The bloke with the BMW didn't, so him, his groceries and his 50 liters of kerosene got to go home in the 110 while his pride and joy spent the night in a pile of snow

I bet they did, it's just most people can't be @rsed to RTFM and learn where it's hidden. Had a colleague ask if I'd help replace her blown tail light bulb the other day. She said she'd had a look but couldn't see how to do it. I asked if she'd read the manual, to which of course the reply was 'no'. I said if she couldn't do it after looking at the book then I'd help. Can't stand lazy people who are too idle to learn how to use something properly

And if you do need a tow out of a snow drift make sure the car is up to it

Ah yeah, one lad (no towing eye) suggested the front plastic bumper, the wishbone and, God help me, the keeper on the boot lock.
He didn't quite comprehend the potential forces that could be unleashed by a frisky 110
I passed, of course.

Indeed I was just thinking today that I might move mine to the glove box before a long trip at new year as the thought of unpacking the entire boot to get it out wouldn't be good in the snow. I doubt a lot of people even know they have one - as the only time I've used mine 3 people with me all said "oh, is that what that circle in the bumper is for!"

When I pulled my Tesco van out a couple of weeks ago , finding a hitch point was a job he'd had that many other pulls from people using 'soft' hitch points , his back end was a mess
Like helping people in the boat .. some are eternally grateful I find, others just assume they've a right to be helped when trying to get from A to B in a foot of snow in a back wheel drive car

Have had the guts of 12'' here where I am In Dublin.. Again no a problem withthe Subaru legacy diesel .. Have already pulled out 2 cars with it too.. Only problems here now arethat the roads have 2 tracks cut into them from the cars but then a pretty big ridge of snow and ice up the middle.. That's a bit of a pain!
