Hythe marina lock

Does anyone have any first hand experience of using Hythe marina in Southampton water?

I am considering putting a boat in there, but wondered about locking in / out waiting times during summer weekends

We delivered a boat there on Saturday. Nice warm day with all the cruise liners in at the time. We launched at the public slip next door and the customer requested access, no wait time. No problem (other than passing a sports boat 4 up with no life jackets or kill cord - idiots)

No other experience of it I'm afraid. Seemed a lovely marina though, customer was quoting £110 per month year round mixed between berth and hard standing storage, with free trailer storage included.

Used it lots, at all times of the day and night, never waited more than 10mins on the busiest of days when I just missed some one locking in.
Excellent location and service. Just not cheap!!

Chris the times for entrance and exit vary. Used it loads of times and Seadogz use it almost daily for fuel.

The gates are sometimes open for in and out access at certain times of tides but permission to enter is needed. I have seen and heard of delays at busy times, the lock takes about eight boats size depending. Delays are usually due to poor boat handling in the lock

If you arrive as gate close it can be half an hour for all boats to exit and then refill if there are boats waiting, I guess thats the worst. It is MDL so if a berth holder you get reduced fuel costs. Very friendly ever time I used lock and fuel.

Helps occassionally to call for permnission to enter from at least Hythe pier buoy or further if at speed, so they can get lock open.

Sounds like you may be a fellow closet WAFI
Sophie II's decks will be repainted this year in Southsea Marina , but I would like to move her nearer to Tigga the SR4.

Hythe Marina would be ideal as both vessels would only be minutes away from each other by road or sea (well minutes in Tigga, a fair bit longer in Sophie II)

Thanks for all the feedback. It sounds like a visit is needed one weekend to test out the waiting times and to check out the on site facilities.

I agree it's fairly pricey at almost £4k per annum for a 8.1m boat, but if the facilities are good and the lock waiting times minimal I would consider it reasonable (it's still a fair bit cheaper than the Hamble)
