Identify this fish?
Brother found this fish washed up at Balmedie beach (NE Scotland), today, January 7th. He thought it was a pirannah, but I've had a quick google search and it's not the same. Looks fierce all the same. I'm sure it has small teeth, but I haven't seen it for myself. Picture taken with phone camera - so it's not great.
Toes for scale!!!
Also found this link - which was posted a month ago for a similar find in NE England. Think there's a link? Any marine biologists out there?

Spoke to my brother this morning, he thinks it's a Ray's Bream too (Brama brama). Apparently a southern European fish, and less common in northern waters. I found reports of them up and down the coast.
http://www.glaucus.org.uk/Bramabrama.htm
He found it stranded in the shallows of a sand-bar after the tide had retreated (still alive).

We're luckily enough to know a Marine Biologist and he's identified it as an Atlantic Pomfret which I assume is the same as a Ray's Bream. Common in the Atlantic, South Pacific and Indian oceans up to depths of 1,000 feet. Quite unusual to be so close to shore, and still be alive.
