IOW Things to do / Places to visit?

Hi, we are off to the Isle of Wight soon armed with two kids (5 and 6 year olds) and we will be staying in Cowes.

The kids have a huge list of things they want to do from looking at an Isle of Wight Brochure, so any suggestions as to the best things to do and places to go? (A little hint the kids are mad on dinosaurs)! And also places to eat - curry, chinese, fish and chips or a good pub??

I would like to get the kids doing some good old school activities like crabbing, fishing and fossil hunting so any advice on the best locations would be great.

Thanks in advance

Loads of touristy things to do.... Will you have a car ? and I'll add some places to go..
In Cowes....... best fish and chips on the island at Corries Cabin.
Excellent curry to be had at curry house in West Cowes high street, cant remeber the name but has large photo of owner shaking hands with Richard Branson in the window.
Fantastic pub "The Folly" just up the river Medina with excellent location right on the river, and fantastic pub food.

Hi Crusher, Yes we will have a car, just looked at the Wight Life guide and found the curry house, think its called Bahar Tandoori? I've been to the Folly in East Cowes and is it the Wheatsheaf at Yarmouth that does nachos? and they are definitely on our list.

There's a little book in the house with all the attractions in it. The prehistoric bits are on the backside of the island up towards freshwater. There's a big pub up there called the mouse inn. Thanks again for taking my island house. Ps you must take your boat as well. Winter rates at sheppards and leave your trailer at my place in swanwick

I'll second Biffer's recommendation of the Wight Mouse Inn at Chale (we stayed there a few years ago when our kids were younger) and which is handy for Blackgang Chine (dinosaurs etc). Our kids also liked the model village at Godshill. I think all four pubs in Yarmouth do nachos but, yes, it's The Wheatsheaf that does the best ones!

Thanks for all the info, my kids are really looking forward to it and so are we.

My little lad is a bit worried about the cable car ride so I may need to take him out for some wave jumping instead

Not absolutely sure of my facts, so it might be worth checking up on before you go, but I think that the chair lift does not operate at this time of year.
