Ipod
Ok, I've ordered an IPOD from Amazon. The rest of the world is in love with thee gadgets so who I am to swim against the flow. Any thoughts, tips or advice? I wanna use it in the car & have seen nifty podgear dock with FM transmitter which seems to be the thing. Stern injunctions against using it in Europe though! Wassat allabout?

Congrats on the new purchase
The technical expert in the house is otherwise indisposed but I think they're cute. Ideal for one's travels IMHO.

The FM thingies are indeed illegal over here. They transmit on FM to around 30feet so could interfere with other signals I reckon.
As an alternative you could get a tape adaptor from argos!

Indeed the FM things are illegal, but who's going to check??!?!?!
I'm not a huge fan of the Ipod I'm afaid - have you heard of Apple's so called "dirty little secret" - you can't change the battery!
Also, they're not worth the money (IMHO) - my pocket PC plays MP3s, cost about the same, AND I can surf the internet and watch videos on it too. (Fair enough it doesn't have as much disk space, but who actually has 9000 MP3s to listen to anyway?!)
PS. Tape adaptor all very well if your car has a tape player.....
Is there a legal alternative for cars without?

My new 'phone can play MP3s (comes with stereo headphones) and although supplied with a 32MB card as standard, you can get upgrades...

I am totally in love with my pod. Best thing for drowning out other noisy commuters on the train
Seriously though the best accessory I bought was stereo connector, which is another docking station that connects it to the amplifier and plays through the hi-fi speakers. Brilliant for parties and constant music all evening without having to keep changing CDs over and the sound quality is still good providing it is plugged into a digital output on the amp.

A mate of mine has had the transmitter for a few months now. He bought it in Boston. It broadcasts on the same frequency as Radio 2. All you need to do is tune all your radios in the house to Radio 2, connect the transmitter to the Ipod, switch it on and you have music all over the house..
.. and next doors as well if they are trying to listen to Radio 2...
It also works a treat in the car. Great fun in traffic jams when he pulls up along side someone trying to listen to Terry Wogan in the morning and they end up with a dose of heavy metal for a few minutes...
Of course I do not condone this sort of behaviour and have told him many times to give himself up to the Police.
Regards.
