IPOD use
Hi
So I have dragged myself up to date and got every CD I own on my iPod, is it possible to plug it into my car or boat sound system or do I need to keep earphones in and griends out from now on?

so long as your car has a tape deck
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Mobil.../dp/B0000AOWVC
one of these will do good job and not a lot of £££

Get yourself a wireless FM stereo transmitter - works excellent for me on boat and in car [NB: I don't think they are legal yet but apparently will be as long as they are CE Marked, unless anyone knows different!] - got mine from www.misco.co.uk Look for a battery powered one, not 12V like this
Belkin TuneCast II Mobile FM Transmitter

No idea about the car setup, but I definately know that an iPod Nano setup is possible on a RIB.
I have this waterproof case...
http://www.marine-audio.com/Products/H2O-Audio-iPod-Cases/Nano/An-iPod-Nano-Fully-Waterproof-''H2O-Audio'-Case_1.htm
...although it appears to be available a bit cheaper cheaper here...
http://www.sailgb.com/p/ipod_nano_fu...terproof_case/
...with a setup similar to this...
http://www.marine-audio.com/Products...ut-Adapter.htm
As I am a girl and rubbish with most things requiring wiring or electricity, the nice Ribcraft boys sorted it out for me , but I'm sure you clever boys could do this yourselves...

Halfords will hardwire an Ipod connector in to your car so you can have it mounted next to your CD player. Its handy to use and gives a slightly better sound. It cost £99 fitted.
http://www.dension.com/icelinkplus.php
Alternatively the new Mini and Saabs have the connector built in at the factory.

As far as I know the Fm transmitters have become legal, but their quality varies hugely. Plus I've driven past some dudes, and picked up their drum 'n bass, which didnt go down well with my Englebert Humperdink, lord knows what they got on theirs ..........

I think our local Esso garage is selling the transmitters for about £7.50
It might have been BP though thinking about it (I fuel up twice a day at times so I forget),but it's worth a look at that price.

Well I am not sure if I fancy having those Halfords guys wire my boat up so I guess thetransmitter is the solution for me, thanks for the help.
Seeing as their is so many knowledgeable people here I have another question.. In my iTunes programe on my PC some of the Albums downloaded are in a number of folders, looks like the software is looking at artists rather than the album because a song which 'features' another singer will be in its own 'album' folder. This means that their are loads of folders with only one song and compilation albums have upto 12 folders. Can I tidy this up?

If you haven't got an audio system in your boat Marine Audio have solutions just for Ipods with the amp and everything out of sight except the on/off and volume controls - the Ipod is then removable when the boat is unattended - if you can wait that system will be on our new boat at Ribex!

I can't answer for anyone else, but we find it the most popular way of storing and listening to music, this isn't the place to go into the reasons why, but car manufacturers have bought into the Ipod thing as well as bluetooth.
For other users it will also be available for other systems if they make a waterproof case for it and it has a standard jack output!
Codders - I suspect your phone would die if left out on the dash? Maybe they do a case for it and you can still operate it?

I wasn't just on about phones - there are loads of MP3 players on the market - many were out long before the IPOD as well - it's just that many people these days think an IPOD is the ONLY MP3 player!!!

Hi Mate
I have already got a system fitted and now have the ipod working, although not tested on water yet but with the Verado it should be OK. I look forward to seeing your new system at Ribex, and maybe enjoying a pint or 6?

Something to do with a successful marketing campaign, resulting in > 80% market share (according to some google searches), leading to the brand name being used to describe any similar product.
Its a bit like all personal casette players being called 'walkman' in the 80s, even though walkman was a Sony product.
A couple of others I can think of are Portakabin and Jeep - any more anyone?

Surely the sounds from the iPod will be muffled if placed in a durex? Should keep it safe though.
