Isla's not a happy girl

Some will have seen pictures/videos of Isla on the SIB and know that she's a big part of our "boating" life, and may also be aware that I've always been a little paranoid about cruciate ligaments (once bitten, twice shy!) hence a flat airdeck and not a "V deck" Honwave. Well the unthinkable happened, generic cruciate disease, not an accident, not a slip on the SIB, born with it and it was always going to happen.
Well she's had a TPLO operation and I'm, or should I say the insurance company, is £4500 lighter.
She isn't a happy girl and won't be for at least the next 10 weeks, but the main thing is the operation went well.

Good luck with her recovery Steve. I know it will take some dedication to look after her for the weeks to come. We are aware we’ve been lucky in four decades of dogs never to have anything this serious.

As we’re on dogs… I’ve ridden local tracks and bridleways for 885mls since May on my eMTB meeting and chatting to loads of dog walkers always wondering will it happen… and today it did. My first dog bite ever. Despite being at a level where home treatment was sufficient what a shock.

Perhaps spaniels hate orange gloves?

Poor Isla……..and she will have the dreaded lamp shade to deal with as well!

We’ve been lucky with ours health wise especially considering he was living wild in spain most of his first year until rescued.

He was in a bad way, had previously broken and untreated legs, (hence some of his bones are a bit misaligned), been hung by the neck from a tree (throat damaged so can’t use a collar) and had a generally pretty horrific first year of his life by all accounts.

But he will be 12 years old soon, and although slowing up a bit, with a few lumps and aches and pains, is still in relatively good health.

Hope Isla has a speedy recovery, and at least it will be a while until your boating kicks off.

Thanks guys, I know some don't get it when it comes to dogs, but they do become part of your family and a massive part of your life.
So far so good, she's walking albeit a little tentatively but the rehabilitation period is so long. 2 weeks garden for toilet, weeks 3 - 4 five minute walk 3 times a day, weeks 5 - 6 10 min walk 3 times a day, weeks 7 - 8 15 min walk 3 times a day, then in increase 5 mins every week.
We had booked Patterdale for new year and hoped to take Redneck out on Ullswater on New Years day, very doubtful that will happen now but she comes first.

It's horrible when they pass Jeff, but it's the happy good times you'll always remember.

Think I've been unlucky Fen, or perhaps it was the rough area I was brought up in, but I honestly can't remember how many dog bites I had as a kid, it was that many.

Heinz 57 by any chance Brian, 12 not a bad age.

As Jeff has already said Mick, unconditional love.

The good news is that her wounds are healing very well. The swelling and bruising has started to subside, and hopefully her staples will be taken out on Friday and the "cone of shame" can come off.

Yeah a bit of a mix Steve....size of a setter, look of a brown spaniel, with a few others thrown in
But generally speaking they tend to live longer and healthier than many pure in my experience of previously having black labs.

Found a great way to relieve Isla's boredom and depression, 5 hours of ducks on YouTube!

She absolutely loves it.

She is a bit happier this week. The stitches came out on Monday so she doesn't have to wear the cone anymore.
