All,
Please see a copy below of the press release from our website:
During a regular training session in heavy seas, the lifeboat sustained structural damage causing the crew to issue a MAYDAY. Two RNLI lifeboats from Weston-super-mare, and the Independent Lifeboat from SARA, along with the SAR Helicopter from RAF Chivernor were despatched by Swansea Coastguard to assist. The Portishead Lifeboat was taken under tow and returned to our base. All crew are safe and well. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the crews of Weston-super-mare and SARA lifeboats for their efforts. Please watch this space for further news.
Regards,
Adam
Portishead Lifeboat

Glad everyone got back in one piece!
Just saw the BBC West report on this. Apparently (and I say apparently because I know how inaccurate the beeb can be)the tubes had parted from the hull for a considerable distance due to rough seas.
if I were Ribcraft I'd be making an official complaint as the camera crew seemed to spend half the report with the camera on their emblem on the tubes.

That is correct.

True, but only because it says RIBCRAFT almost bigger than it says PORTISHEAD LIFEBOAT!

I like the other article on that page about thr RNLI asking lifeboats to economise on fuel . I don't think that has filtered down to the beach lifeguards yet but i guess the Arancias don't use much on the grand scale of things even though they are used as playboats for at least half of every shift .

Sounds to me more like Ribcraft needs to do serious explaining rather than complaining!

Whilst on holiday in Croyde North Devon I saw 5 RNLI Mitsibushi L200's parked on the beach, two pickups and three very posh and tinted 4x4's. Reckon they alone cost more than the RNLI's £99,800 fuel bill.
If you multiply that across all the beaches the RNLI Lifeguard thats one hell of an outlay. !!!!!

Iam not sure who pays for all the kit and the lifeguards wages etc , Iam pretty sure the RNLI don't fund it all , I think we do .
