Broke the glass on the screen the other day. It still works OK for now, but looks a bit crap. Apple will swap me for a brand new iPhone for £140 but I think I'll just stick with the beat up look for now!

Don't know. I did ask whether I could upgrade at the same time, but they'll only do a like for like swap which is a shame!

If you are going with the usual O2 contracts , the Carphone Warehouse has them " off the shelf " . Just bought one for work .

I don't think it's unreasonable. It's just a lot of money to spend on a cosmetic fix that isn't actually necessary.
The Apple shop will even exchange it there and then so you're not without a phone which is pretty handy.

I've just cracked mine so I can use the internet tethering feature which works really well. O2 have just offered me a new 3GS although not sure if I'll take it - this one has lasted nearly a year now and apart from several dead pixels is still good as new.
What are other people paying for their iPhone contracts? I'm sure I'm paying over the odds at around £100 a month.

So I guess the crack is pretty small then .. I just mentioned, since its the only interface for operating the device, and pretty fundamental therefor.

£45 all in everything and think that's a lot, but it is a business phone and they pay the bill

£30 plus VAT for 600 minutes 500 texts and all the internet I can eat. Didn't pay anything for the phone and it's on a 18 month contract.

I know three people with iPhones and all have had cracked screens The latest one to be cracked last week cost £180 to replace through the Apple Store. I was looking at the iPhone but got put off by the fragility. Bought the Land Rover S1 instead which bounces like a good un.
Anyone help me balance the numbers and improve the iPhone reputation? I fancy an iPod Touch which is sort of the same screen, sort of the same construction, sort of the same wet-bar-of-soap design

Thats my current combo I keep meaning to investigate the iphone 32GB but I'm only paying £15/month for the storm (which was free & on a contract with a few other phones) It wont be long before the storms memory (micro SD ) will come out in 32 Gb format anyway so it'll kind of blow out the iphone for the money .. I still think £30/month for a basic 16Gb on 18 months is a bit of a rip off, and you have to pay for the phone !! Thats £500 odd per year just so the missus can moan at you and remind you to get a pint of milk on the way home after you just had a shit day

I've actually been pretty impressed with how mine has held up. I've had it over a year and it's been dropped more than a few times. Although it's looking slightly less than pristine it still works perfectly.
I've had a few "smart" phones over the years - XDA, P900, various Nokias - and the iPhone is the first one that really does the job. I'm no Apple fan-boy, but I've yet to see anything that comes close to the iPhone.
iPod Touch and a Blackberry Storm? Take two bottles into the shower?

Got mine on Sunday Storm mark 2 .. proper business phone.. rock solid O/S no glitches or hangs, has WIfi now .. good tough case for my type of business in construction,.. and it was £reeeeeeeeee
Since I had the mark one that I liked, this one tells me the Iphone magic is over .. so much so,. in a few weeks time anyone will be able to sell them. Its a good product.. the 'touch' that I have is lovely .. but everyone is now on the case. The storms new software is just the same as apples with a very slightly shorter screen, with scrolling menus etc.
In my harsh environment .. Ive always liked the fact the screen had to be pressed to activate a command . It works very well .. but a strange thing happens when you put the key lock on. the whole display goes rigid and doesnt move
Also the bottom row of buttons for call , options, return, and end are now integrated into the sure press display
Good PC management software too .. and effortless email setup .. it even automatically copied my old phone setups word for word .. setting for setting .. perfect No doubt Apple know their phones & pc's.. I've used business phones since mobiles were invented one of my all time faves was a Sony Ericsson P900 which they wrecked with later models.. but this Storm is right up there with its huge clear display and auto on off functions to name but a few Its the best Ive had

My iphone has taken a lot of abuse in the form of getting wet and so far (just over a year) its still going. There are quite a few dead pixels, the screen has several dark patches, and it now looses about 12 minutes every day, all of which I'm guessing is a result of getting wet.
The only thing I find find an issue with it (apart from always being 12 mins late for everything) is the fact the touch screen doesn't work when you have wet hands. Very irritating sometimes.
