Junk Mail

Does anyone know the origins of this particular junk email? I can't find any info on the web about it, email headers aren't much use either. It’s the only damn thing that gets through our junk mail filters.

...off to look at the firewall and mail server logs

We had that same e-mail at work last year to a couple of users who thought it was a great deal. I mailed it off to a mate, who in turn forwarded it onto the Microsoft anti-piracy team.

In the e-mail headers, what's the origin ip address? - it will be there somewhere. Do a lookup on the ip and report em.

Microsoft anti-piracy team - that’s a good idea!

Oddly the sender ip and/or host name was completely missing from the headers. I've managed to pull the IP's out the firewall logs though.

I'm on the war path after a recent success with Yahoo.

It would appear the Microsoft anti-piracy team have done their business already.

Nicely done

It's worth reporting stuff like that cos there are gullible people who will try and purchase, which if they do and the product actually arrives instead of their cc being used for fraud, would not be legal on the computer it was installed on

is there any way, other than using a spam blocker thingy, to stop spam emails? ie can I report them somehow? I never used to get ANY spam and just recently I have an influx of email in a language I can't even read

gmail. The only email solution you'll ever need, including anti spam.

You can subscribe to IP blacklists and block anything that comes from the addresses listed. Some ISPs do this automatically anyway.

The only problem is where the IP address is shared across several mail users on the same server as bona fide emails can get blocked as well.

Otherwise, I think they're just a fact of life these days until technology and law enforcement catch up with the shysters (has that ever happened?)

Even regular post has never acheived control over scammers - plenty of dodgy prize draw and timeshare offers available!

I have been using a mailbox checker called "Mailwasher" for some years. It has all the anti-spam tools you need and with a small yearly subscription you can belong to a global database called First Alert, enabling you to report spam.

Manage all your emails before downloading them to your computer.

It's stable, fast and effective. I think there's a trial download at : www.firetrust.com

Not saying it's a better solution than any other, before the naysayers and smartarses kick-in, just reporting my personal experiences.
