Kids' first aid courses?

Does anyone know of any first aid courses suitable for 10-12 year old children?

I've used this one with kids groups, we then tweak it to suit the audience.

Key thing is keep it fun and interactive, don't even think of the power point or ohp!

Is it an individual or group session that your after , if its a group the British red cross may able to do something , as it happens i am shortly to be piloting a new partner project between the RNLI & British red cross for a few months teaching basic ( very Basic) CPR & how to put someone into the recovery position as part of the rnli's education team to schools & youth groups , If its a success its quite likely going be rolled out nation wide , although the RNLI do the beach/ water safety side of things to schools & youth groups we haven't taught the basic first aid part before where as BRC do the first aid but not the sea / water safety part , theres a few issues that still need ironing out & There wont be a certificate from the RNLI but it should give children some very basic first aid knowledge whilst waiting for the blue lights to turn up .

I was hoping to find an open course to book them on to, but might gather a group together if needs be.

That BCU course looks like the sort of thing, and I reckon that four hours is about spot on. I did a BCU first aid course a couple of months ago with a good trainer. I'll drop him a line and see if he does kids.

I'll keep an eye out for the RNLI/Red Cross thing too. Do they need any pilot groups?

That would have been the Aquatic First Aid? Glad you enjoyed it - I wrote it and I wrote this one too

Right, I'm still looking. I haven't found any public courses, and St Johns and Red Cross only seem to cater for kids if they join their youth organisations.

Can anyone recommend a first aid trainer who has experience working with children and could deliver something similar to the course that treerat suggested? Needs to be SE, ideally able to come to Brighton. I'll arrange a venue and get a group together.

Have a look at your area on here - BCU Lifeguards - Online Services - Find a Coach or Course

Not all coaches are registered but it'll give you a start. Are you planning on being in the South West in the near future or do you have an appropriate first aid trainer locally and I can get them registered to run the BCU course?

If I was picking some one John Wheeler is great, local ish (when compared to me) as is Alan Hale - both are Dorset based.

After a bit of discussion I ended up booking RIBnet member Shaz to run a course for us.

It was pitched at just the right level for the kids, and Shaz was a very patient and capable trainer. Thanks!
