Liberation!
Today we Channel Islanders celebrate the anniversary of the liberation of the islands from Nazi occupation.
I will be celebrating by going for a blat around the bay in my Zodiac, followed by a visit to the pub, things I would not have been able to do 60 something years ago.
As for the rest of you...get back to work!!

Were it not so close to my birthday I would be tempted to make an age related comment here, but I am too weak from the burden of years to bother.
It is not an official holiday here, but I shall have a beer anyway to toast the freedoms that were hard fought and won so dearly.

I thought the bailiwick of donkeys did the same as us? A banner you northerners fall under when it suits you?

Alderney was evacuated, not occupied, so it could not be liberated. It was a good many months before the island was fit for habitation and this is celebrated with Homecoming day, so far the Donks have not been able to ban or tax it yet.
The Witch would like it noted that she is not a Donkey.

That's an interesting assertion, seeing as Alderney was the only British soil to have German run concentration camps on it. I can't see that it was any less occupied than the other Islands.

I think occupation is more to do with an oppressed people perhaps?
Edit: The Hague Convention does not seem to agree.

Happy Liberation from another islander who also knows what being occupied by a bunch of jumped up uniformed neo-Nazi goons feels like - and how nice it is to get rid of them

Liberation 2012
Already sounds like half a plan for a round trip Guernsey, or maybe Herm / Sark as a better alternate and Alderney to celebrate next year especially if the donkeys are all picking tomatoes ??
I went to Carteret this am which was felt as if it was due to be invaded and everyone had already left
