Logistics!
Does anyone have a tow-a-van type box trailer, which they would be willing to lend to me in return for some alcoholic beverages?
Not particularly boaty but I need to transport items to the Cowes Yacht Haven for Ribex; so it is Rib talk!
My car can tow 1000-1200kg braked
Alternatively does anyone know where I can hire a cheap van for the weekend in the Portsmouth area: given that I am only 20 - which rules out most of the mainstream rental agencies.
Many Thanks,
D

Depends who's asking.
Dave - be careful. Your car may be able to tow 1200kg Braked, but having just been stopped by the police, as your license only covers you for 750kg, you could loose your license if caught.

Yeah cheers for that Jimbo it does appear that the police don't know what half the rules are though! I had that discussion when I was towing last week

Trust me. It seems, from last Saturday, that in fact, they DO!
It's a question of how much your license is worth to you, and whether you think the odds are good enough to run the risk. I ran the risk, it was a fair cop, so I now have the resulatant issues to sort out!
I can lend you a small 2m by 2m box trailer if you need it, unbraked, open. You can also use the landy.

Provided the MAM of Trailer + Towing Vehicle does not exceed 3.5 tonnes (that's MAM, not weight!)

OK so if Daves 306 weighs about 1200kg, he can tow a trailer with a MAM of 1200.... a small single axle box trailer is about that.

I don't follow. MAM = max authoised mass. Is that not the same as gross/all-up weight?

No, it is the maximum permitted. For example, my rib trailer has about 600kg's of rib on it, about 200kgs of trailer, 900kgs all up weight, however the mam of the trailer is 1300kgs. The MAM is basically the weight of the car + maximum load, or the trailer + maximum load.

One of my Boat storage customers has a small van trailer, it's ideal for what you do! He wants to sell it and I don't think he wants more than 300 or so for it.
if you are interested I'll give you his number
