Well, I have to eat my own words, I was one of the sceptics, infact I still think it was financially a bad idea BUT what a blinder they have played, from the organisers to Team GB to the BBC coverage to the opening/closing ceremonies, a resounding success.

You never know, it might do us some good in the near future, Britain should now be seen as a country THAT CAN.

No but I did go to the boxing so I got to see Luke Campbell in the quarter final.

it was my Dads ticket so it was quite a day, had a beer and then missed the bus home

Great day, great atmosphere, very proud to be there.

I think we ought to spare a special thought for he performance of the girls. Despite some of them coming from very humble backgrounds I think the team spirit was evident to everyone and they were always smiling and looked a million dollars. I think they were exceptional - and don't forget, they had to do it all whilst riding on top of a London Cab!

I heard on the radio today that the Spice Girls looked like they were standing on top of a London Cab holding onto Zimmer Frames

Interesting to hear in the media that most of the gold medals were won by Yorkshire people and that if Yorkshire was a country in its own right (well it was when we were part of Danelaw and the Norwegiens ran us for a bit ) that we have won more medals in 2012 than Australia & South Africa combined .

That's very true Mr C and congrats to all of them. But remember who won the war. Red rose rules

I've heard similar claims for how well "Scotland" did in the games [7 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze from "Scottish" athletes]. There are some points worth noting though:

(1) Its seems that if it was a team sport (e.g. team cycling pursuit, 2 man canoe/rowing, etc) then we are counting it as a 'Scottish medal' even if only 1 person in the team was from Scotland. Without the other part of the teams such a medal could not have been won.
(2) Eligibility to compete for a country is not simply based on residence or birthplace, and therefore many individual Scots (or Yorkshiremenies?) might choses to compete for another part of the 'UK' if they thought it would aid their prospects.
(3) Yorkshire and Scotland are both known for being canny with their cash - which probably means not investing millions of government money during periods of economic difficulty, in sports for the elite few. As a result the athletes would never have received the coaching, equipment or funding to get to the very top of their game.
