M25 - Speed Cameras
As of the 15th February 2008 all the Speed Cameras in the Variable Speed Limit section of the M25 near Heathrow Airport (JCT 10-15) are going Digital and the activation limit is being lowered.
They are currently the older film type cameras and Set at 90mph when the Variable Limit Signs are not in operation.
The new digital cameras are going to be set at the normal 10% 0f the speed limit + 2mph (80mph + and your taking a risk basically) when the signs are not in use i.e. national speed limit. I can’t confirm the activation limit when the signs are set (variable limits showing) but believe it will be the same 10% + 2mph of the speed shown by the sign at that time.

They can't stop meddling can they
I thought the normal rule was the speed limit + 10% for the car + 10% for the equipment (84mph)?

Do you have a reference for that?
I can't find any official announcement, and a search on Google only comes up with apparently unsubstantiated warnings . . .
Urban myth?

I have just been informed by my dad who works for the Metropolitan Police Service (for those of you who didn’t know) that as and from the 15th February 08 all the Speed Cameras in the Variable Speed Limit section of the M25 near Heathrow Airport (JCT 10-15) are going Digital and the activation limit is being lowered.

Please pass this on to anyone you know.
I hope this saves a few of you getting points on your licence!!!

AFAIK, when they re-did the section between the M3 and the M4, they didn't put the camera's back, at least there are no visible cameras.. The present ones between the M3 and A3 are set way higher than 90, this is based on the fact I have been through them slightly above that speed and not set them off.. I also haven't seen anyone set them off in the last few years.. (Having been overtaken when travelling at slightly above 90.. )
Personally, I am in favour of the average speed check camera's, its amusing to watch people speed between them, braking for the last set of cameras, without realising it's slightly too late to slow down by then..

That must be true to a certain extent because firstly they can't cover all lanes and secondly by cutting a bend you travel a much shorter distance. Look how staggered the start is on some running tracks.

myth
It's a myth!!! by changing lane you can't doge a speed camera, However i beleive that if you travel over 250km/h that is about 156mph than the camera will only take a photo of the road ;- ) saw that on top gear ;-)
but who's got a car that will do that sort of speed.........

It is not a myth - most speed cameras have white lanes painted on the road. They take 2 photos and measure how far you have travelled between the 2 flashes. If you drive on the wrong side of the road you avoid the white lines altogether!!! Also the radar has to be lined up properly to only take photos of cars in the right lane otherwise cars coming towards it would set it off al the time.

It's true-for a different reason though.

errr... they always were speed cameras. SPECS = Speed Enforcement Camera System. (Wonder why they put a P in...SECS )
Technically they can use any SPECS/CCTV camera for checks against the PNC using ANPR to nab you for TAX offenses etc..
