World's largest cruise liner 'Freedom of the Seas' arrives in Southampton on Saturday 29 April 2006
The Port of Southampton welcomes Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines magnificent new vessel 'Freedom of the Seas' on Saturday 29 April on her maiden voyage. The world's largest cruise liner at 160,000 tonnes will be berthed at the City Cruise Terminal adjacent to Mayflower Park by 08.45am. Her arrival on Saturday can best be viewed as follows:

0700 Eastern Solent from Ryde and Stokes Bay
0720 Central Solent from Cowes
0735 Southampton Water from Calshot
0800 Southampton Water from Netley, Weston Shore and Hythe
0820 from Town Quay and Mayflower Park


Subject to delays, weather, and the usual excuses for cruise liners change of arrival times..

This was posted elsewhere

"Freedom of the Seas" passed under the bridge between Denmark & Sweden with 1.5M clearance during Easter.

LW and full power gave the ship the required 1.5M clearance needed... (ship squats 1M + under full load)... but must have been a bit worrying....

Thats not the bridge between Denmark and Sweden

Thats the bridge between Funen and Zealand, both is part of Denmark. According to the map anyway.


The captain was quoted that it was a bit exiting to put the vessel under full power toward a bridge that was not high enough.
