Mental Health question - need your help please!
I appreciate that this question should be on a mental health forum but I'd be a voice among hundreds there, and anyway, there's plenty loonies on here
My question is this: Have any of you had experience with or dealt with a known (diagnosed) Sociopath/Psychopath? I guess I'm interested to know which traits most often give them away and how your interaction with them went/ended. I think I may have a live one on my hands, and it's not pretty...
On a happier note, my red squirrel was back at my doorstep again today, so there must be a few nuts in the garden too

You would know immediatly if he/she was/is a psychopath mate.. You may dealing with a bipolar or schizophrenic if they are quite normal at times.

But how would I know? Do you mean that because I'm not sure then they're not? I'm not quite sure what the "symptoms" are or how easy they would be to spot. I gather that the "garden variety" don't wear a Hannibal mask, nor or they violent by definition.

No, I've known/know a few people with bipolar (one still in the looney bin) and this is different. I'm not going to elaborate on this individual, but I'm interested to see if my checklist matches someone else's.

Well there is a theory that a goodly number of the leaders of industry are of this ilk and it is more common that previously thought. I guess it's more of "degree" of leaning towards the traits of a 'path ie having little or no real empathy for your fellow man but being able to emulate it rather than delight in causing pain in others.
If you find he has a graveyard full of dead animals just worry about when he is going to advance to the next level of his "hobby"

I cant help on that mate as everyone i know are relatively bonkers . did you read this bit ???
- Superficial charm and good "intelligence"
- Absence of delusions and other signs of irrational thinking
- Absence of nervousness or psychoneurotic manifestations
- Unreliability
- Untruthfulness and insincerity
- Lack of remorse and shame
- Inadequately motivated antisocial behavior
- Poor judgment and failure to learn by experience
- Pathologic egocentricity and incapacity for love
- General poverty in major affective reactions
- Specific loss of insight
- Unresponsiveness in general interpersonal relations
- Fantastic and uninviting behavior with drink and sometimes without
- Suicide threats rarely carried out
- Sex life impersonal, trivial, and poorly integrated
- Failure to follow any life plan.

This is my problem - it's easy to "fit" people to a list of symptoms.
Again, do we know one?

No, not yet. Thanks for the linky though. I don't think the individual concerned is particularly dangerous - just sociopathic.
