Chipping (and other upgrades...)
You can do all sorts of stuff to the TD5 as well (the engine, not Dan). If the Disco is the worst car in the survey, you should be fine with the Defender - our Disco has proved v. reliable - it only seems to go back for servicing...
(Ooops...tempting fate...)

Suspect though this is a heart vs head conundrum for you. And I think that the heart will win out. I mean you're not Dan Td5 for nothing are you?!

The S111 is about as modern as the L200...cart springs, age of engine design, ride etc...the TD5 is world class 5cyl HP Inj Engine, mine after 95K uses no oil between 12,000 mile services. The all coil chassis is in a different class to the L200 and actually rides better than a Disco (i have driven both) The LR is full time 4WD the L200 is not, The LR is actually very comfortable, i have driven over 650 miles in one day with no problem. Off road its in a different class to the L200 not least because of the massive axle articulation, the LR has a bigger payload and a bigger towing capacity (3.5 T) and like you said he's not DANTD5 for nothing and i'm sure he is not a Pikey a drug dealer or Pimp either

Mitus Warrior are a chumps car. Of course if you are a flat roofer, plumber, plasterer, spend all day on a sunbed it the one for you.
What the score with reisdual value? Are the 1tonne pick-up trucks going to get a massive devaluation when the self-employed can no longer treat them as commercial vehicles in 3 years time?

There’s no amount of comparisons that can help here (IMHO) this is a lurve thang. Have you got another car in the family for long motorway runs ? If so go with the heart.
We've got a 43-year-old series 2 which we all love - I wouldn’t have believed it before we had one. I use it more than the Nissan Micra and Civic Type-R for fairly short low speed (Obviously) commuting ,shoving the dog in and towing the RIB (Short Distances) at the weekends - but would be difficult to have as an only car. Recently tried a 90 TD5 with a view to replacing the Micra - I think we could love it enough to use as only transport but as a second car it would be a no brainer.
What a nice problem
Cheers
Phil

I think trying to make a realistic comparison of SIII LR & Mitsibushi L200 destroys your argument from the off actually. This is about heart though so I think he should go for the Defender.
If head is to prevail mebbe Dan you should also look at the Nissan Navarra or the Ford Ranger? Cookee has a Navarra as does I think Mark Pascoe. Neither look remotely pikey
Of course what you really need is a F150 Supercrew, 5.7V8 Lariat

I Read All The Arguments.......
and the only plus the LR is that it looks cool, is cool and you will be happy for 10 muinets driving around in the thing, OH and you can drive to the top of big ben with it , because its so good offroad........
L200 , Pikes drive them, but at least its , driavble on motorways etc , its comfertable, comes with 3 year warrenty, which you will never have to use , it will start , stop , do anything you ask of it, and you wont have to worry about breakdowns , noise , a/c , pain in your back or arse after 200miles driving the thing....... and you wont have to listen to your wife giving out about driving a tractor.
just to make the piont again... 2002 , I towed a J24(crca 3200kg inc traler ) back form Italy(near Rome) ..... I had choice of L200 (mine) and RR (friends)to do it with.... I called the AA to cover me for the tow, and I was told that they wouldnt cover the 18month old RR , but they would cover the L200....... Need I say more

Says the man with a brace of Evinrude Fichts (post 2001, natch)
Dan, stop using your wife as an excuse for not buying the Landie - under no circumstances should a woman ever be involved in speccing up boys' toys.

Well excuse me Mr D but I beg to differ! If the lady is happy, the man will be too!! Or would you rather have to listen to complaints every time you take her out in your 'toy'?
Now get back in your box and don't come out 'til I say you can. Boys, huh!

Mmm.....3200kg?
Base L200...
Fuel tank capacity lts (imp.galls) 69 (15.2)

Kerb weight kg (lbs) 1410 (3109)
Max load capacity Nett kg (lbs) 1080 (2381)
Max load capacity Gross kg (lbs) 1160 (2557)
Towing capacity, braked kg (lbs) 1800 (3969)
Towing capacity, unbraked kg (lbs) 500 (1102)
Trailer nose weight kg (lbs) 75 (165)
SERVICING/INSURANCE/WARRANTY
or for the 4X4 warrior..
Max load capacity Gross kg (lbs) 1065 (2348)
Towing capacity, braked kg (lbs) 2700 (5953)
Towing capacity, unbraked kg (lbs) 500 (1102)

I'd say you were grossly overloaded.....
I've got both on my fleet. A "4life" and a 110. I know which I choose when I have to do any heavy lugging over long distance...
....and they both make regular trips to the dealers for rectification.

Not a problem as it happens - Gaynor doesn't like RIBs, motorbikes or noisy British sports cars. Loves the RR, though

I will give it some thought, Dan, but as a Libran I'm not the world's best decision-maker!
When do you have to make your decision?
P.S. So far, I think the LR is winning on rugged, 'grrrr' factors, whereas the Mitsi is winning on pretty, 'ooooh' factors! I'm not helping much am I?

Don't bother wasting your time, everyone - he's already made his decision, he was just hoping we'd all tell him to buy the Mitsi. Pathetic, utterly pathetic. And don't come back on here whingeing about police harassment after you've bought it, either....and don't even think about towing a caravan in it.
