Model Boat Race (By The Book) in Portsmouth

Hey there.

An idea has been broached about racing those model boats & chavster craft.

Suggested venue : Hilsea Lido or a suitable stretch of water in Portsmouth.

Suggested date Sunday 22 Jan in the afternoon (could combine with Tim M's ribby trip?)

A Rule Book is being written as local powerboaters/ instructors may enter and we Know What They Are Like

OOD will be the very experienced Commodore Martin.

Roll Up Roll Up.

Post your entries and rule suggestions here!

'ello, 'ello, 'ello - wots all this then? Will 'ave to consult the Regs regarding this sort of fing. They will 'ave to keep their speed to below 10kn and their wash to a minimum.

Go for it Howard!

We are willing to go part shares in a boat with others ! Martin may have a spare craft so pm him if you want to join in.

Pete (Ribald) your rules shall be written down in triplicate and think you should come along to Monitor

Tony that is true. But the role of the OOD in this case will be very limited to
  • establishing the rules, start etc.
  • being completely ignored
  • and sorting out arguments afterwards.
During the actual race it will be every boat for Itself and it's fair to say that one entrant has already made it known that he will try Every Trick In The Book. (Not the Rulebook this time )

If it's too much to combine with the studenty spin we could make it next available...

And Clarence is a top idea BTW Tony

(Any real kiddies turning up will be automatically become team captains of the various teams.)

RW why don't you enter with Jasper's boat?

Canoe lake is a good idea Rich...if we don't get distracted by the yells of 'Come in Number 22 your time's up '!!!!!!!!!!

Howabout a different weekend? As the studenty cruise might be quite a day

Hey NautiRich that's a cool craft you got there!!!!!!!!!!! No lookin down on the neighbours then!!!!

Andy that means Ryan and Andrea are Team Captains if they show up

Will double check on dates and post another (hopefully by the end of edit time!!!!)

OK OK

Saturday 21st is better for most peeps !!!

*12.00 at a venue still to be decided (but Hilsea Lido is shallower ).

*There is a radio-controlled narrowbote on EBay at the moment !!!

* Having just 'phoned one entrant and OOD we can confirm that

1) Boats have already been tested (with almost disastrous consequences in one bathtub )

2) Someone Else's boat is 'letting in water'

3) Someone is sanding a prop because it has a history of running aground

Keep the entries comin in!!! (Just been texted a photo of some MEAN lookin competition!!!)

Health and Safety Notice

Your bathtub / kitchen table / sink / rainwater barrel / toilet???could be at risk in the case of over-energetic testing

I suspect that most entries will be battery powered, but is open to all model boats.

It will be a laugh.
