Musto clothing

Hi, I have a new RIB and I want to get some jackets and trousers for me and the other half, I have been looking at the musto BR1 channel jacket/trousers and the BR2 offshore jacket/trousers, I am mainly going to be out in the solent and going over to the isle of wight , the BR1 outfits are cheaper than the BR2 and if they give adequate protection I may go for them, many views would be great

cheers martin

Go into Rovers or Hansford fishing tackle shops in Fareham and have a look at their floatation suits. Should be able to pick up a two or single piece for about £90 or less and are great pieces of kit that are warm as toast, have built in bouyancy and lots of pockets. Have a look at this one I'm sporting from last winter its a single piece one and really good at what it does.

Just got the musto channel jacket in blue and platinum. Just awesome.

I am told the BR1 material is no less waterproof than the BR2, it is just slightly heavier. Though i personally couldnt tell much difference.

The inshore Musto seems much lighter and summer based i would feel. The Channel jacket is more substantial with flaps over the zip etc and i feel the best if coastal cruising in a rib in the UK and importantly for me has the higher neck collar area. The offshore has a higher neck again but overkill unless sailing where lightness might be beneficial. Sat on your bum in the rib, i dont think it makes any odds.

Absolutely chuffed to bits with it, i prefer it to my old mans HH jacket that was more expensive.

I've just ordered these ;

http://www.marinescene.co.uk/product...ousers-package

As a replacement for my ageing HH kit - Reckon if its that wet I'll be inside and not on the boat . Seems an OK price as I am mostly a fair weather boater.

My two piece one is a Sundridge En-Tec2 which is coming up as about £100 worth on google shopping. I can't remember the make of the one piece suit, I'll go out in the garage in a few mins and have a look.

In the mean time look on ebay for fishing floatation suit.

Actually for summer cruising we both have a set of these Gill salopettes and jackets. They are very waterproof and comfy and seem to be lasting. I didn't pay anything like that for them though, try ebay where if you keep an eye out you can pick them up new and pretty cheaply. I think I paid approx £100 for each full suit.
As for cold weather gear we use Fladen one pieces which we picked up online for around £70 each last year, I wouldn't have thought they would be much dearer now if you have a look around.

My One piece suit is made by someone that doesn't make floatation suits any more, however if you do a search like I previously mentioned then there are lots of different types to choose from.

2 words of advice:

The Imax floatation suit leaks and isn't reliable (read on the fishing forums)

Some floatation suits are quite heavy to wear due to the floatation material they use. The Imax was really heavy and some of the other ones were too. So my recomendation is to try before you buy.

I purchased the Compass Offshore 3000 suits for the girlfriend and I last year, after looking at all of the ‘big name’ brands. They are excellent value and I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Great service as well. (I needed to change one of the sizes ...Phoned Compass ...They sent another size and arrange for a carrier to collect the unwanted item at their cost. )

The local commercial fishermen bought these a few months ago, they have been raving about them ever since.

Cost is about 135 for top and bottom set.

The trousers floatation is in the bib.

Went for two sets of Musto BR1 trousers and BR1 channel jackets, went out yesterday and stayed warm allday, well recommended if you are on a budget and don't want to pay for Goretex
