New Bugatti

What an awesome car - just finished watching Top Gear now!!!

Funny how most people have kept it quiet that it is built using loads of British F! technology - the entire 4wd drivetrain and gearbox were designed and built by Ricardo and a lot of the electronics are also British.

British technology rules F1 after all.....

I like the typical Clarkson statement of propostorosity "Its got 16 radiators that's more than my house" - Its a superb vehicle, I dont really like sports cars that much. How does the "W" engine work?

I read in one of the car mags where they had all the top line stats and one of them was how at full speed it drinks a gallon of fuel every 5 miles…..

Hardly news on this site is it ????

W engines are just 2 vv blocks mounted side by side. To my mind it's quite a messy setup - far better is an X arrangement - 2 v blocks mounted on top of each other but opposite way around so the "points" of the V meet.

Which is why, Herr Codmeister, you're an IT bod in Swansea and they're amongst the finest automotive engineers not only in Wolfsburg, but in the world.

Which is why they had to come to Britain to get the drivetrain and a load of other stuff designed!!!

So now you are saying the W engine is the ULTIMATE layout are you?? Everyone else has it wrong!!!

In this particular application, where achieving the lowest possible centre of gravity is paramount, I would suggest it IS the optimum layout.

I was under the impression that most of the development work for the drivetrain was indeed done by Ricardo, but at their German based techi centre.

One of my customers was part of the team who designed the dashboard.

Great for an aero engine where vertical space is available but not in a car and what do you do with the sump
W engines are cleaver because of the overlap of the two Vs when designing them, you can use space that is normally wasted in a single V Des

Surely these engines would be dry sumped anyway!!!

Yeh but even dry sump systems collect the oil using gravity below the pistons, if you have two facing downwards the oil will collect on the back of two bottom pistons

H configs engines are wide so difficult to install, W gives you a good compromise

A few years ago I met a bloke who worked for AMG racing in Germany. He was Scottish and we got talking about cars - he said he worked on the carbon fibre bodyshells. I asked him if he spoke German and he said he didn't need to because about 30 of the team were British anyway!!!

You've actually met a Scot who admitted to being British?

Blimey.
