My new desktop PC will finally be arriving tonight, and I’m looking forward to getting it up and running as it should be a vast improvement on my current 5yr old Novatech special.
I’ve gone for a Packard Bell with an Intel Core 2 Quad processor, 8Mb of Cache, 4096Mb of RAM and a 640GB Hard Disc.
The Graphics card will need updating in a few months time, but will be fine for now.
I don’t mind admitting that despite having built my own machines in the past, I’m a little nervous about aspects of setting this one up.
I must be getting old.
I’m going to be using Vista for the first time.
I have a new wireless Modem/router to install for my Broadband.
I’m upgrading to Office 2007 from 2004.
I’m going Kaperski instead of Norton for the first time.
I have 1 normal and 4 POP3 email accounts currently running on Outlook Express and I need to migrate these to Windows mail.
I need to Rip Frontpage Express out of Office 2004.
I need to download another copy of Terrapin FTP to upload my websites to the hosting server.
I’m told my full studio version of Photoshop7 will work with Vista, but I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Likewise with my older version of Autocad and my Raymarine navigation software.
But most of all I need to remember all my passwords.
Wish me luck, I’m sure there will be some help required over the next few days, and I’ll probably be asking them during the day from work if I can’t get the modem to work.
Nasher.
