New Years Quiz

OK chaps, it's time for your NewYear Quiz.
Those that are bothered to post will get the answers on Jan 2


1. You leave Portmouth Harbour and steer 154 T for 7.9nm. You then drive on 228T for a further 14nm. What should you be able to see bearing 357T about 3.6nm away?
2. You are in the track of the CalMac ferry leaving Mull. Suddenly it sounds 3 short blasts on its ship's whistle. What do you do and why?
3. These lighthouses are linked by a common factor. What is it?
Fanad Head, Fastnet Rock, the West Lighthouse on Rathlin Island and Black Head.
All are either in Eire or Northern Ireland.
4. What have the ports of Brixham, Newlyn, Killybegs and Peterhead got in common.
5. Where are the following photos taken?

Well as willk and wiLlfish seem to have both started on the single malts a bit early, it's a good job I have decided to wait at least another 48 hours before posting the answers

The Answers

Well here are the answers to the quiz:

1. You should be able to see St. Catherine's Lighthouse. The Needles are more like 300 T and are a lot further away.
2. 3 short blasts means it is reversing/about to reverse. Best get out of it's way?
3. They all transmit an AIS signal. Most others do not.
4. They are all major fishing ports. Expect to find diesel there.
5. Kiessimul Castle, Barra Bay, Barra
Lews Castle, Stornaway, Lewis
Lochranza, Arran
and of course, Ailsa Craig in the Firth of Clyde
