No more Wave 105.

My Goat is agitated today because the best radio station in the world, Wave 105, owned by Bauer Media is being ‘transitioned’ to Greatest Hits Radio, which they also own.

Only the Breakfast show will retain it’s local presenters and content.
The rest of the day will now be national radio.

Waves content was always good music from all periods, including the best of new artists.
The change to GHR means nothing will be played from after the year 2000.

Tens of Thousands of dedicated listeners of the only truly local radio station left on the South coast have been shafted by this decision based on the greed of Bauer Media.

To be honest, I’m disappointed that the breakfast crew have chosen to fall in line and save themselves rather than walk out in support of their many friends at the station who’ve been put out to pasture.

To coin a phrase – It’s just wrong!

Lady Nasher will have to put up with me listening to Planet rock all the time now.

I work in publishing with independent radio stations and unfortunately this one size fits all approach is fairly widespread, especially with an organisation as big as Bauer Media. The formula across broadcast media is to share the same music selection, same presenters, and the same promotional budget and it’s all a bit dull for the listener.

Yvonne Bauer runs the family operation and is based in Hamburg and is worth a pretty penny.

If you’re looking for decent music and don’t mind trades humour, then Fix Radio is worth a listen. At least they are still independent. Before you know it you’ll be driving a white transit!

I actually like GHR, it's my goto radio now that the BBC have managed to completely f**k up Radio 2. But then again I'm an old fart

The ads annoyed me initially, but now I don’t actually notice them.

Well, I guess every time you hear one you know you just saved 2p!

I heard a very well known Irish rock DJ tell an interviewer that he listened to Radio Paradise to chill out - it's actually a decent mix, IMO. Internet radio, obv.

>>The change to GHR means nothing will be played from after the year 2000.

Despite my core lifetime interest being rooted in late 60s/early 70s bloke rock... proper rock... I find the constant Rock (with a capital R) of Plant Rock a bit wearing and really miss the chance to be introduced new current artists with stations like GHR concentrating on older stuff. I keep half an ear out to Radio 1, YouTube and sometimes Jools for newer music but there is no radio station overall I really like.

I know I'm setting myself up for a fall but new stuff like...

Thanks for the comment all, and yes Matt I've seen that site.

Thinking about it, the music isn't the biggest thing that's annoying me.
Wave is VERY focused on local stuff, and presented by local presenters.
Local Events, Local News, and Local Sport.
That just will not happen with most of the day being a national station.

The banter between the presenters is fantastic, often leaving you wondering how they can get away with saying some of what they do on daytime radio.

Yeah, Bauer killed off Eagle Radio near us too. It was superbly cheesy, but it was local cheese and everyone liked it. I was sad when they closed it down.
