Nurburg Ring - if you like your track days...

If you are a petrol head you simply must make the trip! I've Just returned from a 2 days thrashing around the track & have to admit I was blown away by the place.

The locals are absolutely nuts.. Just when I thought I had nailed a particularly tricky section on day one I was overtaken by a Fiat Multipla going into a fast bend & I could see the kids in the back eating their sandwiches! One guy in our group, in a very trick Subaru, was overtaken by a local builder in aTransit van

Here are a couple of images from the cockpit of my Honda S2000, referred to by one instructor as the body bag due to its very tail happy behaviour in the wet And boy did it rain..

Cheers Ian (now diagnosed as suffering from Ringworm)

Iv been wanting to go to the Nurburg ring for years! I have just this weekend brought myself a BMW 3 Series coupe, I want to go up later this year for a spin. How much does each lap cost?

Nick

Not sure Nick, our passes were included in the package but I think it's 11 Euros

We did 9 min 47 in the dry. That was following a friend, who races Caterhams, in his Z4 M. Not bad considering he has 100 hp more than me

She is a legend at the Ring & now has her own TV show. Her Ring Taxi (BMW M5) is booked up 3 months in advance. As you can imagine the instructors have many stories about her antics. Apparently she beat a very experienced racer recently in a standard Focus 170. He was in his race prepared Ferrari Stradale Challenge car. BTW I also heard that Jeremy Clarkson did not do a 10 minute lap in the diesel Jaguar that they showed on Top Gear. Tut tut BBC...

I did a five day 'stag' trip there last August whilst the Old Timer's Grand Prix was on, and it was a really memorable trip. And my car proudly wears its little Nordschleife badge too (for those in the know). Driving the ring is a must for any one interested in cars. Also late August is the season for Piffilinger mushrooms, which seem to accompany all the local sauces and are pretty good too! Looks like now there is a drift taxi as well as the M5 ring taxis:

Myself and 45 other people hold the lap record for the slowest lap of the Nurburg Ring

We went round in a Lucketts Coach and have a Video to prove it. The Hairiest moment came around the banked hairpin as there's only one line a coach can take, otherwise it topples to the bottom

We had such a laugh as we had motorcycles, Ferraris, M3's and 5's, Etc comming around corners at breakneck speeds only to be confronted by the back end of our Coach. The looks on the drivers faces where priceless as they swerved to avoid us and swearing loudly as we'd buggered up their lap and cost them their 10euro entrance fee

One thing I thought was a little morbid where the spectators that picknicked around the curcuit on all the dangerous bends with camera's in hand waiting for accidents to happen.

Was a great day, finished off by visiting the Museum and seeing a little bit of the DTM that was going on in the new Circuit.

There's a claim of approx 45 mins... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...&t=202995&i=20

"Many phenomena - wars, plagues, sudden audits - have been advanced as evidence for the hidden hand of Satan in the affairs of Man, but whenever students of demonology get together the M25 London orbital motorway is generally agreed to be among the top contenders for Exhibit A."
