Oh bollards!

The council in Manchester installed some retractable bollards to stop people using bus lanes. It's causing a bit of uproar with the public.

PS keep an eye on the windscreen of the white van...

In the Estate car the passenger airbag goes off, but I don't see the Drivers one doing the same.

The van driver must have given himself a mighty headache after headbutting the windscreen.

Should sue them - more traffic on the roads - I know lets close off lanes or complete roads and make them narrower. sod that let's charge £25 every time you want to drive through our glorious city!!!

Not sure you will win - having presumably failed to notice (or chosen to ignore) the large flashing warning signs.

I'm not even going to debate the politics with you, because the solution to relieving congestion can hardly be to encourage car use.

if i could get away with it i would drive my 35 tonne sexton tank over it and rip them out!! then i would head for the nearest council offices and drive through them!!! that would be pure entertainment!!!

Just don't go in to town. Then if everyone did that the traders would complain and it would get removed.

It worked in Edinburgh when they tried it on the Royal Mile in the early 90's.

That is what is going on in Swansea - the council have finally gone mad(with government backing) and have totally ripped up the whole of the city centre for bendy buses - it has caused total gridlock and loads of city centre shops have gone bust - they are still hell bent on forcing people to use buses though. We have various park and ride scams - they have had to close 2 of them and the others have about 3 passenger each!!!

We don't have it where I live. But I still don't go in to the Town Centres. Its all Pay for parking with 20% plus rises every few months for parking.
And anyway the shops are all BHS, Debenhams, DVD shops, phone shops etc.
I just avoid them and buy everything off the internet if i can't get it in a supermarket.

Its a shame really it would be nice to have a leisurely day out shopping now and again but I can't be doing with the traffic and parking aggro.

Going by train would be nice but our village station was sold off eons ago and it would be too expensive, overcrowded and dirty anyway.

When are we going to learn not to put up with this b__s__t from the local councils and government anyway. All they know is how to get money and then waste it.

They may be on a bit of sticky wicket here, as the bollard is not visible but comes up from the ground beneath the vehicle. I bet a good enough barrister good prove that the driver was driving with due care and attention and that it is a hazard that is "un-expected".

I wonder how many people who cannot read have been caught out or is there mandatory "stop" sign? If so then the council may be in the clear. Tricky one though!

There are two flashing NO ENTRY (except for busses) signs. visible at start of film. I would say most of the people on the video knew the bollard was there and were trying to piggy back the legitiamite vehicle in front.

If you can't read how are you supposed to take a driving test or read the highway code...

Talking of ridiculous new charges get a look at this. It's going to screw London for good-hauliers can't afford to buy new trucks to cmply with this so London might well become a ghost town. Even the supermarkets don't completely comply.

I dont think you need to be able to read to well or at all to pass the new driving test. However if the sign is pctographic then as said it seems fairly water tight unlike some of the radiators and engines of some of the vehicles.

How does it sense legitimate vehicles? RFID? Wonder how easy they are to copy?
