Peters Opal

Good friend at Chichester Peters Opal has just been made redundant today after the company announced it was going into administration...more news here

http://www.ybw.com/auto/newsdesk/200...00mbmnews.html

Two things strike me - how a company can get away with getting employees to work half a month and then tell them they wont be getting paid at the end of it, despite knowing how dodgy things were and secondly, what the impact will be for marine industry in general if one of the largest distributors in the UK can go tits up...

When you fall out with your major suppliers at the rate which Peters have done, theres only ever one result. Once Peters and Sealine parted company the clock was ticking.

I was down at Sparkes today and there were a lot of sad faces amongst the independant tradesmen, since Opal were possibly their biggest customer by a factor of several.

Apparantly it was Peters who ended the Sealine relationship (allegedly) due to the huge number of dodgy boats and customer complaints/refunds/warranty work they had to deal with...think your right though, when they lost/ended the Fairline relationship, things seemed to go pearshaped.

And the big question is "Will Brian Peters remain chairman of the BMF?"

(Sorry - thats a bit flippant when a large number of locals are going to lose their job.)

Yeah, but there should be plenty of blazers with shiny buttons going cheap on Ebay!

Could our glorious summer have anything to do with this? Lets face it there must be a lot of people who have suffered considerably!!!

I always associated Peters decline when they lost Fairline, they'd never admit that of course. Sorry to hear this though. It's a sad day for the industry when the biggest go down...
