An ex Sabena pilot sent me these . They are actual . The Iberia pilot did not program his computer correctly...... the second one - well that could happen to anybody.....

Quite true. But they were not too bad in their hayday ( never had a fatality in the last 25 years). Considering all the things that have happened in air-transport in the last three years - I really wonder whats going to be left when the dust setlles. Will we all be on ryan-air type planes? eating our own sandwiches and being charged when we go to the toilets? - I am surprised they hav'nt thought about that one yet??. -thats not such a bad idea. Say on a flight with 180 people - everytime somebody flushes the loo its at least 4 liters of water + washing their hands So a flight of 2 hours assuming 70% of the passengers use the toilets once ,that means that they need to cart around about 500 liters of water thats half a ton- so if you charge people say a quid a time ( 50 pee for kids) you will save on water and cut your fuel bill down. And it excludes those who have to go to the toilet all the time....

BUT
- they have over 350 independent breweries
- make the best chocolate in the world
- make the best fire arms ( what a connection with chocolate)
- have the cheapest quality housing in Europe
- and are certainly not French

and even Jules Ceasar said " de tout les peuples de Gaulle ,les Belges sont les plus braves"

I an a Uk citizen- and just returned from blightly, by jove, was I happy to return to a "civilized " country. One day the UK will just sink.....

I agree with the chocolate and the fire arms.
I am the proud owner of a FRAGOT (bellonged to my father), twin barell shot gun. Made in 1930. The barrels are hand carved, it survived the German WW2 occupation in Greece and now is resting on top of the fire place in Greece. Great gun. I learned to shout with this one when I was 11-12 years old. Very light and very accurate. I also have a SEDETIEN hand made too in 1935

and a few others....
And finaly les Belges sont grands gens pour être avec

You have me stumped. I admit to not being very au fait (Sp?) with smooth bores, but have never heard of Fragot or Sedetien. Francotte, I am familiar with but not the two you named. By the way, didn't GIAT sell the Herstal Group to Colt in the late '90s/early '80s?

Probably you right about the Francotte name. People pronounse it FRAGOT so this is how I spelled. The company closed down during the 2WW and never opened again. Same with Sedetien I think.

For GIAT I don't know. Have asked a friend who is heavily in to these things nad he will probaly know. If he does I'll let you know.

Auguste (sp?) Francotte did not close down and were certainly producing fine grade sporting guns up to the late 80's from recollection. They may still be in existence for all I know. However if it is a fine grade '30s example it is VERY collectable. Take some pictures and send 'em to me as there are a lot of people here in B'ham who value such items.

Jono and MeMe Thanks. I will take some photos next time I'm in Greece.
I just thought that the company closed down. This what my father had said to me a few years back when he was alive.
Any way, it does worth a bit of money this gun and has quite a bit of history too. My father bought it brand new before the 2nd WW, during the German occupation (he lived in Athens) he dug a 3 mtrs deep hole in the back yard of his house (we still ahve the house), and berried the gun after he greased it and wraped it up with greased military spec heavy paper. Then he put in a wooden case and poored concreat on top. The Geramans investigated the house as he had a gun licence and my father gave them an old single barrel gun he had. They never found this one and the Sedetien and I'm lucky to have them.

By the way what you think of the MOSBERG MARINER and the FRANCHI SPAS12? The second one I had a hell of a time trying to get it imported and licenced in Greece. Managed it though

The Mossberg and the Franchi are both "tools" they are not sporting guns. The Mossie is a reasonable quality budget price kinda gun and the Franchi really has only one place and that's in the hands of people who need real fire power for whatever reason. Are yours limited capacity in Greece? Here you would need 'em on an FAC not a SC if they're more than 2 in the mag and the only valid reason would be for taking part in some discipline such as "practical shotgun". The Rozzers are, quite rightly, not very keen on handing out class one shotgun tickets in any case...in fact they told me to stop taking the piss when I applied..

Yep they are both great shotguns. I just collect them and use them from time to time if we go for ducks or wild boare (which is quite dangerous but fun) in Greece in the north in the winter.

In Greece the law is not as stricked as it is here. You just have what you call her a fire arms licence nothing else. Before you get it you go and have an inteview with a phycologist (don't know how I passed their

) and you need to have clean records with the police. Then you can have up to 5 or 7 shotguns.

If you want to get a rifle or a pistol or a K47 or anything like that then you need to apply to the police and is a different procedure. You need to prove the reasons why you need the weapon and is more lengthy process. However, is more or less on the same wavelength as of that for obtaining a shotgun licence.

The Franchi I did have a problem as the barrel is short but I was lucky I guess and passed it through.

Price wise (is sometime when I got those two) I think the Moseburg cost me 250000 drahmas (£400) and the Franchi I think 350000 drahmas (£600). Not a lot both brand new and leagal.

PS: The Moseburg comes with a wooden stick inside the catridge chamber so that you can only use 3 catriages (which you do when you shoot game) but take that out and you have 6 (5 in the main chamber) and one in the shooting chamber. Very light shotgun too.
The Franchi again takes 2 and 5 catriages BUT it has a magazine that you get (I have

) and you can put up on the top and in total you get 9 catriages in total plus one in the firing chamber

......a Mosberg pump action, 6 shot I think. We used it when shooting geese in Scotland. I agree with Jono, it was a very commercial looking gun but boy, it was robust. Oh yea, it was a mulit choke as well. As for the Franchi, I still own one, I bought it in the early 90's and it was at the time, the lightest over and under sporting 12 gauge on the market. It#s a nice looking piece with their trademark golden snipe - I think it's a snipe, on the butt.
