Please Fill in my Questionnaire for College?? (Boating Related!)
Hi all,
I'm currently at college studying enterprise, and as part of my course (in which I aim to develop a product) I'm currently tasked with completing market research into my idea.
To do this, I must present a questionnaire to my applicable target market before tallying and reviewing the results and creating a sample marketing campaign based on them. This is mandatory for my coursework.
My idea is based on boating and towing, and solving the many issues I know we've all had with unreliable and undurable trailer boards... so I thought RIB.net would be the perfect place to post!
I’m looking for hopefully around 20 or so replies, so thanks in advance to anyone who can spare just a little time in answering these simple yes or no and rating questions.
Here's the link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/QHM7VYK
And if you could, it would again, be very much appreciated!!
Cheers,
Joe

Questionnaire for Tony T's lad.
Done.
There's a flaw though: "For how often do you read PB&R?", there's no box for "Feckin' never!"

FYI trailer boards start at around £10, think you had a much higher starting figure on the survey, regards

Done, I only paid £19.99 for the last board I had though - and wouldn't really want to pay more than £50 for an alternative, as I think I could build something for less. All the best with your project though, looks interesting :-)

I've answered your questions. However I think you might find the questions aren't very helpful for actually defining your product.
(1) Do your respondents know the difference between durability and robustness? or usability and easability? I'm not sure I do!
(2) As already noted you can get a board for less than you think. And you assume I am prepared for pay at least £70 for a better board. I think that is niave.
(3) If you genuinely want helpful responses then you seem to be very focussed on the rib market. There are plenty of people towing hardboats, sailing dinghies, daysailers etc.
(4) You ask me to rank q's Not Important Fairly Important Very Important Necessary
I'd expect this to be a sliding scale but I'm not sure "necessary" is the right word - do you mean essential?
(5) If you do you might have wanted to add some reference questions! Perhaps some features you aren't expecting to be asked for.
(6) You didn't check where people were based - regulations will impact light boards in different countries.
(7) You assumed everyone is dissatisfied with the current product. I'm not sure this is actually true. You certainly would want people to identify the things they find anoying about current boards (bulb failures, corrosion, fragile "lenses", gets dirty, storage when off the trailer, having to remove to launch, awkward to fit to the trailer etc).
(8) if you are thinking of LEDs you'd want to understand the issues with connecting to different electrics. So perhaps the tow vehicle (as people probably don't know if their vehicle has a bulb failure sensor!).

Doesn't apply to those of us in the USA.
Lighting boards? Much easier to leave the lights mounted on the trailer, as it is two less things to do every time you want to enjoy your boat.

Missing big market of dinghy sailors and jet skiers. Dinghy squad guys put in lots if miles.
10year old board, 4000miles. 3 bulbs, lots if WD40, 5 number plates. Biggest issue with plug socket or mounting to boat. Cost £15 from halfords. Plates £6 from eBay.

as said price got to be less than £50 for something that will last a fair while current light boards are ok if the manufacturers stopped using dissimilar metals never get mine wet silicon seal all holes and specs and they still corrode.

Done, but you need to modify some of the questions (as others have advised).
It seems to have been designed to support your new product rather than test the market to see if its viable.
You need to go shopping and see how cheap current products are. Also the questions on how often do you buy/read publications has no option for never. So your marketing assumptions will be all wrong.
See here: NEW MAYPOLE STD OR LED TRAILER LIGHT BOARD 3,4,4.6 FT Cable Caravan Car Van Boat | eBay
You can buy boards for £16. So your product has to compete with this.

Done. Understand the need to have quantifiable replies, but in a number of cases more options are needed, e.g. I bought my last light board from a motor factors, and would go back there if/when the need arose.
