Is sad. A couple of friends of mine one bought the Land Rover V8 and the other one the Freelander. Both vehicles have major problems.
Gear box gone on both and the Freelander needed the alternbator changing, power steering and brake system. Both bought brand new cars and now they have about 10-15000 kms (6,200-9,300 miles about) on the clock.
However my Range Rover that was made in 1978 has done 200000 miles, never changed the engine and I have it since I was at the univercity is still going with no problems, just need to change the baring in the gear box next year.
Now I said this I will jink it

mmmm.. interesting, when you say Land Rover V8, do you mean Disco/Rangie?
If not, what model V8 Defender and were did they buy it from?

Jono the V8 is the defender. Both vehicles were bought in Greece and they were made in the UK. Apparently they say that the ones that are made in Spain are a lot better (and I didn't know that they made them in Spain also )

I thought that making Range Rovers in Spain was strange. Here people think that they do.

Des, I think Manos may be refering to the old Santana licenced models.
Hey Manos, A new Defender V8! Wow, where did he manage to buy that? You won't believe the difficulty I had when I tried to order a special build! If he has a "contact" I'd be grateful for when I replace my current TD5.

Jono will ask and let you know. As far as I think though it was from the Greek Range Rover dealer, but will ask the question nevertheless.

If it keeps going that way they will be made in Dagenham next, and then the quality will have to improve.
I think the last factory fitted loose bit has just fallen off my 1990 3.9 RR Vogue. Good thing about old Solihul stuff is that all the bits that go wrong are in previous owners dustbins.

What about the Disco III......
......has anyone had a look at one close up yet ? I ask as I may, if I'm really really lucky receive a substantial increase to my Company Car allowance (A4 at the moment) and this may just fit in (£25000 ish).

as no one wants to pay the tax

Saw one on the M1 at Leicester about a month ago, although not officially on sale until October - presume it was a Solihull development hack. Front end looks gorgeous, rear end looks exactly like a Ford Transit Connect, very odd, and overall perception is very slab-sided. More road presence than outgoing Disco and I'm sure the vaguely bizarre styling will grow on me in time. It will, of course, sell in its tens of thousands to the gymkhana set, completely regardless of the fact that it'll undoubtedly nearly bankrupt Land Rover with a predictably endless array of warranty claims in the first two years

I dont think they have, they have confirmed that they are talking with Land Rover about the relacement Defender for 2008 ish and fully expect to continue to use LR's....Also think that the stories about reliability are hyped up mine has done nearly 100k with no serious problems and my previous did nearly 150k and never let me down. They also make them in Australia by the way but they are wider. The Spanish one is as ugly as sin and still uses cart springs, why anyone would want one of them is beyond me.

landrover lost the 101 replacement as the 130 defender was not up to the job
merc have it with the little gs truck
land rover have set up a full inspection and test centre at a mod base for putting right problems on brand new wolfs before they hit service read LRO.
they find five out of ten wolfs have unfit for service problems
the mod have expressed concern about wolfs having to be return to dealers
for repairs my local agent as about four wolfs each time i go from woolwich
not good during a war
the royal salute guns are now pulled by german merc gs trucks with 30 k service intervals
don, t get me wrong its so wrong when i have to replace my company truck yet again with an other mitsubishi l200 when the TD5 crew cab is the same price on the road but landrover as nothing at all inside you have two pay for two more speakers and a cd player met paint ABS AC all cost more. buy the bits
and add four grand two the price
and don,t tell me the L200 is crap off road it will do all what a defender will
do and more as the landrover will break down on a monthy basis
this is the first year i did not renew my LRO mag for the year
and i hope they close solihull down and build at halewood to improve the product

You have got to be joking
The L200 is not even full time four wheel drive, has Cart springs at the rear so has a poor ride, an old fashioned engine that is not as powerful as the LR, not as good as a tow vehicle, no traction control, nowhere near as much axle articulation, not such a good payload, a chassis nowhere near as strong as the Landy and that includes the axles. But i will concede it may be more reliable and a good bit cheaper so why didnt you just say thats why you chose the L200 instead of saying it was better than the Defender

chris
ok the defender is a better buy than the l200 i agree
but i can,t have one and i would
love one
due to cost and spec and over all its got to be reliable
and after my last disco TD5 fell apart and my bosses new disco TD5 ES fell apart the three freelander vans we had fell apart i just can,t risk it
we ran four l200 pick ups up to 80k no problems at all not one at all
