Portable USB Storage advice....
.......please. I have just paid £49.99 at PC World for a "disgo Lite" 1GB USB Storage device - the sprt that goes on one keyring.
I've followed the "a monkey can do this" instructions but the damn thing can not be seen by my PC. I've plugged it into my mates in the next office with the very same PC and it popped up in My Computer.
What's wrong with my PC ?

1. If its not windows xp or windows 2000 it will probably need a driver which you should have got with the unit.
2. have you tested the usb port with something else like a mouse or webcam to check its actually working.
what are the exact symptoms - ie does anything happen when you plug it in, does an error ocur etc etc...

try it in an xp machine, if it detects it as a removeable stroage device, reckon its either your operating system being to lower spec, (windows 95/98) or a usb port problem, maybe driver - wot you running?

Try pressing F5 when you are looking at the contents of My Computer where the other drives exist after you have plugged in the USB key

When you put it in go into 'My Computer' and see if you can see it should be calles something like Udisk/ USB Mass Storage Device, because mine doesn't pop up when I insert it, although it does pop up on a new machine.

Dohhhh
No switch on side (that would have been the same as not having the kill cord in).
Tried F5 - No nothin else pops up.
No nothing in my computer saying anything other than the usual.
Have checked system and it is capable of running 2.0 usb as opposed to 1.1.
Tried rebooting......nothing......
Where's Richard B when you need him..........

blimey sounds like youve tried it all, running on xp with all your other goodies (ipod) etc, I reckon it could be duff, best try it on another machine as process of elimination.. i doubt very much its a conflict, is it a front mounted usb socket, possbile that wires has come loose of motherboard - try one of the rear usb sockets that are fixed to mainboard also -
failing all that, did u mention its a work machine? could be a local/group policy lockdown on devices nbeing applied to the machine - depends how cool or nice your IT people are I guess worth an ask best of luck

If you have another USB port try it in there, I have had this problem before with a scanner, it was working fine then nothing plugged into another port OFF of a USB Hub then everything OK. I don’t know why but its happened a few times!

There should be a switch somewhere on it - it is a security lock - sometimes the computer can't see the device if this switch is in the wrong position!!!

Other than that go into device manager and see if there are any yellow ! marks - if there are right click on them - remove and then scan for new hardware.

codprawn is probably right.
from whats been said - i think that when you first plugged it in the new hardware was found but for some reason the drivers did not install properly - so you need to go into the device manager and remove the partly loaded or non functioning driver and then start again.
as codprawn says non functioning stuff usually has a yellow exclamation mark next to it.
but have a look in other devices for any unkown device and remove them also.
if its correctly installed there should be some metion of the device in the disk drives section of the device manager.

MeMe
I have had this problem too on a brand new PC. I could not find a way to sort it. Until.......
I had a major system failure, which involved re-formatting both RAID drives and re-installing XP.
Guess what? It works now.
Do not try this at home, it requires the skills of a total twit to perform.

ok we're........
.......getting there - I've uninstalled the discdriver for this device. Plugged it back in again and the ballons popped up saying found and installed.
Went to my comp but still not there.
however there is a d drive which runs my cd driver and there is an e drive which it would appear also runs the same cd driver as when I press eject on either d or e the same (and only disc drive) pops out.
I sent an email to disgo and they said -
my comp - right click - select manage - select disk manage - right click on removable or disgo - select change driver lether an paths - click change - select new letter - click ok - and all should be well.
Unfortunately when I right click on my comp there is no "manage" so I can not proceed..........
Is there a awy around this...
Come on lads - we're getting there !

You probably cant delete them from there anyway
but go to your device manager and delete everything that looks like a cd rom or dvd drive etc...
They will all re-detect when you reboot anyway - buyt hopefully this time without 2 drive letters for one drive.
to open the management console do start > run then type in compmgmt.msc
