I'm new to ribnet, but experienced in taking coolboxes to festivals, I get a case of 500ml water bottles, freeze about 15-20 of them in my coldest freezer, to use as ice packs, together with a couple of bottles of Gin & Vodka, which happily get to -20 without freezing, place in my 50 litre coolbox together with well chilled beer, tonic, milk, food etc. I usually have some ice left in the coolbox when emptying it 4 days later, and if truly desperate you can always drink water from the partially thawed water bottles

+1 I have a couple of camping gaz extreme 32l cool boxes & we do the same but use 1.5l bottles of water. Freeze them (empty about 20% out before freezing to allow for expansion), make sure food, beer etc is well chilled before hand, pre cool the boxes with cold water & pack. They will easily keep stuff chilled for a weekend, longer if you keep the in the shade & don't open them needlessly. They will p155 a day at the beach.

Yep, I use my cool box for keeping mackerel and cod fresh whilst at sea, same idea with the 500ml bottles.

It's amazing how quick mackerel go off if you don't keep them cool.

+1 if we're out from Whitby, we nip in the Coop by the harbour & buy a couple of bags of ice & just empty them on the fish in the cool box. I always gut them out at sea as soon as I can after catching them, to get rid of the worms. Normally it's rod to plate in around 4-5 hrs. Nothing tastes better IMHO. Flavour wise I prefer Mackie to Bass.
