Rigger boot alternatives
Evening all,
I've just been told that we are no longer allowed to wear rigger boats at work and I have to either get wellingtons or ankle boots. Looking around most boots just don't have chunky enough soles to safely walk across seriously muddy ground and I hate wellingtons as I don't find them comfortable.
I realise many people hate the bans being introduced and I know the pros and cons of arguments to ban them, but has anybody got any ideas for alternatives?
I've googled it for hours and found nothing. Ideas for alternatives would be appreciated.
Chris

Apparently they have no ankle support and things can drop down inside them.
I need steel toe caps and midsoles in them as well.

In which case have a look at some of these:-
V12 Boots Online Store - Safety Footwear, Boots and Shoes
I use them for work and they're pretty good-specifically mine are the V1235 Boulder Black Derby boots.
Their wellies look rather funky too.

Its worth trying on a pair of neoprene wellies, as very warm and comfortable.
Buckler and muck boots are 2 of the makes that do steels, I used to hate wellies too but am converted after buying a pair of buckler's, I live in mine now during the winter.
Try farm suppliers as they keep the steels and are normally competitive on price......

Whereas wellies are supportive and close fitting? Sounds like someone at work needs to have a word with themself!

They did the same in the oil industry a few years back and these became pretty much standard although a lot of the vessels we work on don't enforce the rule they seem to have pretty much replaced the rigger boot now

I have the same problem, riggers are just about banned within the construction industry, I'm surprised they gave you the option of wellies, as we have to have a permit to wear them & that's only after a risk assessment has been done, don't ask😁 We moved on to lace up safety boots, but "they" are also on the way out as we now have to have metatarsal protection, look at Goliath D30 boots. I'll be glad when I get out of it!! I'm off to a job in London tomorrow, 2 day induction, drug & alcohol testing, full railway spec HiViz , all on a sh1t works!!!!
.....sh1t happens.......

These are the Goliath boots that we have to use now, nice & comfy & do the job, but they are the thick end of £80 quid a pair. You can get them from Greenhams or Arco. Goliath are based at Heckmondwike. The whole rigger ban thing came about because a couple of Skanska railway workers got bust ankles going over on railway sleepers. Skanska banned riggers throughout the company but this then spilled over onto the construction side. Other companies then joined the H&S arms race & thought "hmm, I bet we can go one further".............

Sounds daft to me.
If you wear rigger boots inside your trousers nothing can fall into them....I've done his for years on commercial firework displays etc...
Lace up high boots don't stop you from turning an ankle either!
I'd just have disciplined the numpties for inattention if they'd managed to trip over railway sleepers - especially if they were an obstruction encountered as part of everyday work - they can't have ben following the SSOW.
Maybe a change of career to rail is not postively indicated!

They don't look bad Dave will have a look sometime as you can imagine my boots get some hammer
It's the metaguard bit that's crucial for me after having a broken foot
