Rigid Raiding craft
Hi,
Has anyone any experience of these as I'm looking at getting one from Babcocks and sticking a decent size engine on it.

Are they capable in the rough though?
If filled with water will it stay upright? Am I right in thinking the max hp is 140?
Am tepted as I can leave it in the harbour withour too much worry.

not saying there is anything wrong with them - but you need to understand their limits.

A chap I know ran biggish raider down here with a pair of 200 Mercs on it. I had a trip on it, it was heavy and a lot less seaworthy than you'd expect.

MOD used to run them with 4 cyl, 2-stroke 140 Soozook outboards. A friend of mine had one with a 85 Yam, which he used for fishing. Stable at rest, but like any dory, a right rough old ride in any swell or chop. A tendency to climb over waves and slap down flat on the other side. It took a right hammering, but didn't show any signs of damage - that's military spec. for you.
Personally, I'd stay well clear of them.

A guy used to have one down here too, with an XR2 on the back. Not much use for anything in my opinion, unless you like raiding things rigidly

Somebody I know here who used to have one reckoned it was much better than a RIB in the rough but having watched it with its current owner coming across the harbour on a breezy day it doesn't look to be the case!!
The local defence force here have one with two Suzuki DF140s on.
