Jono asked me to post some pictures.

He has been deployed to Cockermouth in the Lake district with the RNLI flood rescue team. 300 people are stranded in homes with depths of 12ft and currents of 20kts. The team are currently awaiting their mission currently based at Carlisle castle army base.

Good for him for helping all those poor folk out....

I've been watching the news and can't think of anything more miserable - a disaster....

Here here.

It's the fall out as well that is awful. Only last week i was looking at renting a cottage in the high street in Cockermouth for December to be a base for walking in North West Lakes. It's screwed now and will no doubt take months sort out, poor owners.

Hats off to the RNLI boys and all the others there. Operating in 20kt currents with debris and even cars swirling around isn't funny.

In particular that poor policeman who was swept away when the bridge collapsed.

been up here in workington/whitehaven running windfarm boats for quite a while and it really must be the wettest place on earth. We were taking the front turbine fender off one of the boats in all that ***** rain on the day the floods came. Floods last year but not this bad, it made the headlines then because of the fell running race fiasco. Off roading across a field this morning to avoid the flooded road out of the village we live at here. Then a long long detour out to the edge of cockermouth as we normally go thru workington to whitehaven but the bridges have gone in workington itself and elsewhere, and it looks like we will be doing that detour for a long long while to come. The salvage pump off one of the boats is currently deployed emptying a house of floodwater. My sympathies to the family of the lost policeman, they were doing a great job that night as we were trying to get back to the house.

Wow! I just watched some of the videos that Codprawn had linked to. Very sad about the police officer. Will keep the residents and the rescue & relief workers that are affected by the flooding in my prayers
