They design and build them themselves at the inshore lifeboat centre at cowes on the isle of wight ,they also convert engines to be inversion proofed .
sponsons were by Avon and hulls by Halmatic, including the arancia r.i.b thats used by beach lifeguards though for that one under licence from the Newzealand company .
They have been developing SiBs with the concept of the RiB from the very early 1960s along with help from the Atlantic (Hence the name )collage in south wales which has inshore station on the premises .
The rib was first concived owing to damage caused to the SiBs at Atlantic collage and the headteacher admiral Desmond Hoar decided to add Plywood sheets to the rubber floor .
which over time went from wood to rubber to rubber sponson to a sealed wood hull ,
along with an rnli inspecter David stogden they then went from very basic ply hulls to what they are today ,
mr Stogden also developed the idea of the very large Medina Class RiB which went eventually to dutch lifeboats KNRN, they then devoloped it into the victoria .
after trials at a number of stations the rnli decided that it was too costly as it was powered by twin caterpiller engines, a mate of mine trialled the boat at Redcar for a few months he said it was an awsome boat in the right hands but sadly funds were low at that time and the rnli were developing other boats they could not afford to put it into production at that time .

It's refeshing to hear positive posts about the RNLI, they get a real bashing on another main sailing forum It seems to stem from the fact they don't like being told to wear life jackets and similar Wait until they get into difficulty
I for one sail more comfortably knowing the RNLI are out there
and did I mention I love ORANGE RIBs

Crikey, is monty a bit of a brand tart? What's that a bwm, a Humber and now a Redbay... its no wonder he doesn't post on here with that lack of loyalty he'd never know which side to take!
