Round Britain by Kayak

You have to be in awe and admiration for anyone who goes Round Britain by boat. But to be self powered on a 5.5m kayak (an open surfski), the praise goes up quite a few notches. But then when you learn the kayak is going round without any support boats or road crew, you are think "really". And to top it all Dougal aged 23 has type 1 diabetes, so he also has to cope with sugar highs and lows and manage insulin while sat on a surfski off Beachy Head.

This is an epic voyage, it has only just begun on 2nd June 2023

Now 4 days into the epic adventure, he is really covering the sort of distances you would be proud to cover in a RIB of the same size, Brighton to Ventnor yesterday, & Ventnor to Lulworth Cove today. This is awesome.

You to can follow him live via https://dougalsepicadventure.com/ or Look up Dougal Glaisher on Strava or Instagram.

You have even see live updates on his sugar levels.

I am gripped. He is raising money for the Diabetes charity A4D

I am sure he will welcome any passing ribber who has a spare hot sweet mug of coffee, so keep a look out for a lone kayak, miles out to sea

Good Luck Dougal

420 kms in 45 hours is some going!

Wonder why he's going up the West Coast of Ireland and not around Wales or North West England?

ahh, just read up on his exploits, I cam across him when I was doing the safety cover for the DW.
The guys not afraid of a challenge it seems!
Seems he departed Aldbrough a few days back, with the wind we have been having its been rather lumpy and a bit of a mess out at sea!

It's also more sheltered from the prevailing winds.

Not as long as if you'd gone the wrong side of Ireland!
