t'other way round, the Imp engine was developed from the Coventry Climax fire pump engine.
Rootes did some serious competition development on the engines, they were also used in motorbike sidecar racing.

Don't get me wrong, great cars and the engine won't overheat and blow the head gasket if the cooling system is looked after.
Had several Imps and would have another as a toy now if I had room.
