Sad News

I am very sorry to say that my father Graham passed away this week after a short but very brave battle with cancer.

Ribbing was our hobby that we did together to get away from the world and spend a bit of time with each other and although we didn't know anything about boats when we started, Ribnet made it all possible.

We had great fun with our rib projects and we were both looking forward to one day owning a larger / cabin rib and taking along a few more family members.

Everyone we have met from this forum has been truly fantastic and a real pleasure to spend time with and I am so pleased to say that I have met some really good friends on here too.

Graham was my father, my best friend and my ribbing buddy and I will miss him very much and I just wanted to say thank you to you all.

Alex

Sorry for your loss mate. I know how it feels. The thing that keeps me going now is I have the same relationship with my son as you had with your Dad in all respects. It does get better. Always remember the good times and the fun you had that's what keeps me going especially now as it is coming up to the anniversary of his death.
Cheers
J

It's always hard to find the right words for bad news like that. I'm really sorry to hear that Alex. If you find you need some head space, feel free to pop in and chew the fat over here.

Alex, sorry to read of your loss. You had many good times, which many others would not have had the opportunity to experience. Think of this and ensure you all keep going to have many more with your family

Alex,
Sorry to hear that. Went through the same with my mum 8 years ago, so know how you are probably feeling right now. Remembering the good times really helps, and although it might mean nothing now, like others have said, it does get easier over time.
Look after yourself, and hope to see you on the water again.
Neil

Hi Alex,

We've never met. Condolences for your loss.

I wanted to share something with you that I learned 4 years ago when I spent some time at sea with a guy who told me about the difficult relationship he had with his father.

His father had been a well respected Pastor and was a sort of holy troubleshooter for the Church, which meant that he was usually moved on to the next hotspot fairly rapidly. As the family was uprooted with him, this meant constant upheaval for everyone and I believe the guy told me that he had attended 7 different schools in his childhood. So no sooner had he started to gain acceptance at a new school and start to make some friends, than he was whisked away and had to start again from scratch, which he deeply resented and he let his father know in no uncertain terms.

Sadly for this guy, his father died when he was just 18 and he hadn't got the resentment out of his system yet. People would come up to him to offer condolences and say things like "You're so lucky to have had such a wonderful father" but he'd had no experience of this part of the relationship

Twenty years on, it still wounded him that he had not had the opportunity to make his peace with his father at the time and for them to enjoy a close, mature relationship.

It sounds as though you enjoyed that closeness with your father.

ATB

Brian
