Salcombe south sands new hotel

This seems to be the latest proposal submitted to the south hams planning office, from the Rigby group plc it's a 13.5 million development of the old tides reach hotel site on south sands beach salcombe with a new luxury 51 room spa hotel, of course it offers all the latest green ticklers to satisfy the clipboard carrying suits and to be seen to tick all the right boxes.

It somehow doesn't tick many of mine

I stayed at the present one last year and recommended it to others. The look on your image is awful for the area and as Whisper said, no chance of getting in and out on those roads. The car park alone will have to become a multi story or take all the local land,

Looking at your image are they proposing buying out the other hotel in the bay behind the road?

The south sands hotel will stay put, it is visible to the left of the shot with the new hotel replacing the tides reach on its own footprint and land to the left which it owns as well

Understand, could not work out why the smaller hotel was to change as that works , the other one is pretty average but the new image is awful for area

I worked as a consultant for this guy's aviation division for 6 years and I have to say, he usually gets what he wants in his business dealings. I hope this proves to be one of the exceptions.

this is just a carbuncle on the landscape, it reminds me of the set of crash barriers on the A30 where it chicanes through the s bends.

Something a little more New England with cedar cladding maybe
