Saving a PDF?
Is it possible (by downloading something) to save a MS word document as a PDF?

there are various ways to do this - but the simplest would be to use a pdf printer driver like CutePdf (google it) and then you print the document, pick Cute Pdf as the printer and enter a filename when prompted. job done. Others like pdf 995 will give you options for a tool bar button but unless you pay will bombard you with sponsors adverts.

CutePDF is good. Even better is to ditch Word and use OpenOffice Writer instead. It's free and comes with an option of "Export directly to PDF".

Microsoft offer an add-in for Office 2007 that lets you save documents as PDFs:

Might be slightly cheaper than buying a Mac though

i thnk the "lightest" and easiest way to go is open office. try googlin "portable apps" and get the downloads for open office. way easy.... and you can have it on a memory stick or even copy paste to any pc. no installation needed

When I had open office, it didn't seem to work with MS office properly, always skewed when it came onto word, and funny fonts and spacing etc. I managed to get Works 08 free from Uni from being part of the Uni paper, and It's 10 times better than MS office!
