Weather bomb?

What the hell is this all about? Is it another Americanised term used to sensationalise a winter low pressure system?

I was told today that it was the Norwegians who invented it in the middle of last century. Presumably the press jumped on it though because its good headlines.

Very good headlines - doubly so because the Beeb also got to run material explaining what it meant. I guess we should be grateful that they've stopped reporting "perfect storms". Journos - wasters, lazy and startlingly ignorant - either half drunk or coming down off last nights high... grrrr!
