What an Easter!
Drove home from Southampton to N Ireland on Thursday - getting back here early Friday. Brought the car with me as very excited to be towing the RIB back with me to its new home on the South Coast on my return next weekend.
Yesterday morning was woken to the sound of my wife screaming, ran down stairs to find our back door had been opened - my car keys taken and my car gone. Also taken were both my and my wives iphones, an ipad, my wallet, her handbag and a north face coat - all the stuff you leave lying on the kitchen units as you head to bed!
Neighbors were woken at 0330 by someone in their back yard, and called the police reporting 4 'youths' in a Grey BMW estate leaving the area. The police didn't tie it to a stolen car until I called them at 0645!
On subsequent police investigation it appears they may have been at three properties in the area.
As planning on doing some work to the rib prior to towing her back over, i had in the boot of the car a couple of bags of purchases from Marine Superstore in Port Solent last week!!! And KRU lifejackets..... fishing tackle/rods/reels etc - basically 5-600 pounds worth of gear in the boot....... That's not to mention the new front disc and pads last week in anticipation of the long tow and the £83 quids worth of diesel filled into her tank a few hours before she was nicked!
So now in addition to trying to move house/family across the pond etc - i need to make alternative plans for getting the boat over as well as dealing with house insurance and car insurance companies, trying to get a new phone, replacement motor when see what insurers want to do etc - nightmare!
Unfortunately with the proximity of here to the Irish border, the police think car gone across - if they don't get within first 4-6 hours either abandoned, smashed or burned they fear its gone....... either for breaking, export or more sinister to be used for further crime.
Was a cracker tow car too........ not happy

Sorry to hear that mate and I hope that the police can get your car and property back. It could have been a lot worse and somebody could have been hurt.

Not good.
Keep positive, thankfully no-one was hurt. Hopefully you're not out of pocket once the insurance companies eventually pay up. This sort of crime - stealing the keys to the car seems to be on the increase. Unfortunately our justice and legal system doesn't deter would be thieves.

2 years ago my parents house was broken into during the night so their car could be stolen. its a golf r32 which makes a quick get away car for armed robbery - which is what it was used for! cars contents were found in a lay-by 2 days later and returned, following day car was found in perfect condition dumped behind some shops, containing knives and cash register trays! csi said five people had been in their house that night and that it was a good job they didnt hear them and try going downstairs - especially if they were carrying knives. police said car would have been driven very carefully so as not to draw attention to it, which was very lucky.

wow = as already said, the spirit and kindness of ribnet members does not cease to amaze
Thanks, but seem to have transport sorted now, my mate and boating buddy has agreed to tow the boat over from here (he has a jeep), to Southampton/Portsmouth - he will then return on the Liverpool/Belfast Ferry Sunday night - clocking up the miles! So fingers crossed, and no more dramas boat will still be in her new home on Sunday.
Police phoned me with an update today - they are now sure the car 'left the jurisdiction' shortly after 4am on Sat morning - entered the Republic of Ireland. They had two sightings of the car on cameras. No sighting of it as yet anywhere else. Who knows - but its a pain in the arse! All the insurance companies back to work tomorrow so will see how we get on with them.

Hi,
So sorry to hear of your loss and so angry that this could happen to such a nice guy!
As you are bringing your boat to the Dry Satck here, I'll shave £200 off your bill to help cover the cost of your loss.
Kind regards
Steve
