Small country big money

Totally off topic I know but just spotted this on the BBC.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/7229516.stm

The worlds biggest mining company BHP is taking over the 2nd biggest - Rio Tinto Zinc. I hadn't even heard of the 1st one but I do know the 2nd. The chinese and the Yanks are very worried as the new company will control something like 80% of the World's Iron Ore not to mention all the other minerals they mine. It turns out both companies are British/Australian and the deal is worth $147 billion!!!

So many people think that Britain is a tiny little country with no place in the world. When a deal like Tata taking over Jaguar/LandRover happens the media make a massive song and dance about it. In fact the LR/Jaguar deal is small at just over £1billion. This deal barely gets a mention.

I hope JK doesn't class this a political - I just find the whole money market/Corporate game so fascinating. I mean $147 billion and you start talking REAL money!!!
