Someone here will know...
Can someone enlighten me as to the current 'craze' to paint the bonnets of cars / vans matt black?
Is it a 'yoof' thing?
Do they think it makes them invisible to radar?
Is it a 'go faster' thing?

One of the unfortunate side effects of the vinyl wrapping industry.....
Ive seen whole cars done in matt black or carbon fibre effect....IMHO it just looks "unfinished"..
I think BMW even offered an M6 in matt black??

The black bonnet is meant to be carbon fibre, you can buy carbon fibre bonnets for most hot hatches. Like someone has said it's all a bit Fast n Furious.
I've never got the point of spending thousands on an all singing all dancing paint job then sticking a black bonnet on it?

When I was working in London (Mayfair) I saw matt black RR Phantom with gold chrome work and red wheels. Stopped outside a resturant and picked up a 12 year old kid. I reckon his parents told him he could have any colour he wanted!
Wasn't to my taste but each to their own.

Originally this was done on competition vehicles, especially rally cars back in the 60's and 70's to prevent the glare of the sun getting in drivers' eyes. Then the VW scene got into bonnet bras in the 90's, now everyone else is being original and following, with wraps etc aiding this. HTH.

Only because it is not inconceivable that it ismade out of some exotic material - on a VW Polo or clapped out Transit my imagination won't consider such a possibility!

I guess wrapping the whole car is a good way to keep your paintwork good.
