Lets talk about education!
Maintained schools need more investment. More money = better quality of teaching, better learning environment which leads to children that actually want to learn which leads to better self discipline which leads to reduced crime which means the government has more to spend on other things including EDUCATION!
I personally also think that schools should be segregated like they used to be. ie Grammar schools etc. If you got rid of the kids that really didn't want to learn (normally the bored and frustrated kids that bring the standard of the hole class down) and gave them something they enjoyed doing like learning how to fix an engine or build a wall, everyone would be better off and the clever ones would be free to learn in an environment where good grades are applauded, rather than ridiculed by other pupils.
I could sell these ideas to the Labour government!

The main problem with schools is that they have these things called teachers!!! Usually stroppy overbearing little hitlers who get their kicks out of shoving around a load of poor little kids!!!
As you may have gathered I HATED school - managed to get myself a 1st in Astrophysics but only through my own efforts - totally pointless anyway. Just have a look in New Scientist and see how much they pay even Phds these days!!!
2 of my richest mates who are millionaires many times over are as thick as short planks without a bit of paper between them!!!

It's not just about being academic though; the state system doesn't cater for extra curricular development very well at all. What ever happened to creating "well rounded" students? Take sport for example; no compulsory sports at all post KS3 (a lot of schools CAN'T offer any). Investment here would lessen the burden on the NHS as fewer kids would be obese and suffering from asma etc.
This is turning into another political thread; sorry
